There is a skill to buffing that I still don't have, but round one is done. She looks pretty decent, but you can still see a few swirl marks. So, round two will get rid of all the swirlies and make her as good as she is gonna get. See ya, -Abone.
That sir is something to be proud of. I think I asked begore in another thread but what kinda paint did you lay down??? It almost looks likes nitro lacquer.
It takes a brave man to paint black. Good on you. Always use a brand new buffing pad on each step. After you're done throw it away. It'll never work properly again without leaving swirls. If you are using a clearcoat don't be afraid to put a little pressure on it but not too much or you'll cook the paint but you want a little heat in it. Looks good so far.
I've found that no matter how hard I try to clean them a little compound always stays there, dries out then becomes grit to swirl the next job I did.
I dig your 39. Well since I ALMOST finished my first round of buffing my 39 Coupe today, I have decided to clutter your thread a little... Incidentally, I started with wool and finished with foam, I don't have many swirl marks, but I have to get a few area by hand that the buffer won't reach.
Wool. Sounds like next time I'm trying foam. However I'm going to stop here. I feel like I'm hijacking the thread.
Speaking from personal experience...and I am in no way a pro.. My favorite way is the 3M system. With that black car, my favorite ending polish is the Dark Swirl Remover. I wet sand out the orange peel with 800, 1200 and then 2000. 3M Rubbing Compound, with the yellow, then the Fine Cut Compound with the white, then I use the Dark Swirl with the black foam. This stuff is AWESOME on dark colors. You will be suprised of how much it improves what you already have done. I did my first car with a Macco paint job. Was afraid of burning through the clear, but I learned alot. This car I did was black, and was also afraid. Followed what I had learned, went slow and wow it works. Try the dark swirl remover even just with a small spot and a towel, its great!
