Hello...need to know why you supposedly "can't" do this...

~I Want to put stock 4-lug 14" wheels, (from 1964-66 FALCON or early Mustang) on a 1962 Comet.
    Car won't be lowered.

~I ideally want to use a 195/75/14 tire and grind out the WWalls wider.

I saw a few 1964s with 195/75-14s, and was told they do not rub...any slight clearance differences in the round body cars?

...Anyone used 14" stock Falcon wheels, & some "normal" tire size on the earlier cars?
    ...Pics?
Q=Will a 195/75/14 rub? Anyone used this size on one???? THANKS!

  2. okay..Hollander shows 60-62 spindals together and 63-66 spindals together...for what it's worth and from experiance go up to 67 4 lug spindals...the 63-66 4 lug spindals were prone to breakage...replaced many during our Mustang days...with just 6's in them....

Lots of room for the 195/75 14's on there . The only way to foul that up is to use aftermarket wheels with the wrong offset.

YES, they will fit. I had them on my `61 & `62 Falcons. just use those narrow tires on the front, I had my `61 jacked up in rear with G60x14s on it.
only thing you have to watch is those 4 bolt rear ends won't handle alot of BURN-OUTS.LOL
    have FUN & good luck

  6. Hey there, i have switched to 14" 1966 4 stud falcon rims on my squire.
The tires are bias Coker E78's they are quite a tall profile (26.6" overall) but also the smallest of the '78' series.
In one photo i have them mounted on the car with stock front end and there in plenty of clearance, no scrub even at full lock.
I have since lowered it 3" front & 4" rear and i do now have the tire rub on the front flare when making a u-turn but not during normal driving.
The rear wheel tub is more restrictive, as there is only about half an inch gap between the tyre and rocker panel, when i have the car jacked up it actually touches (due to blocks).
So i would say it can be done but not with any larger tires than stated or the radial equivalent.
Should be fine with the tires you are suggesting.
Good luck, show some pic's when done.
    Kyle

these are 195/75 14s on mine, it's not at a driving stage yet, but talked to a lot of guys in Australia and New Zealand running this size with no problems!

Where'd you get the chrome reverse wheels (still 4 lug I am assuming?).

So now I know it works with this tire size...anyone else have more pics just for grins?

I dont remember all the details but I converted to 14" rim on my 64 falcon and also used a 5 lug wheel pattern, eventually included front disc brakes.
The only problem I had was with the front tires on full lock, the tread would touch the subframe rail which has a lip on it.
Next set of tires I purchased, I went with a slightly different profile and all was well.
