I've always enjoyed the story of Richard Brickhouse winning the inaugural Talladega race (even victory lane celebrations were better back in the day).

The K&K cars were sold, for the most part. The one Reiter was driving had been purchased that year by a team in Louisville. It was later driven by several drivers, including Jesse Baird and Jim Robinson. There's one Daytona in the K&K offices in Fort Wayne, I understand.

Thanks for checking. He was only in a few races so it was a long shot. I'll keep checking back in case someone happens to post one. You guys have a great site here.

Copley, the photos isn't dated, but it had to be '71 as the top 10 that year were 1. Ramo Stott, 2. Tom Bowsher, 3. Iggy Katona, 4. Mickey Flora, 5. Bill Clemons, 6. N.D. Copley, 7. Cliff Hamm, 8. Ed Richardville, 9. A. Arnold, 10. Andy Hampton.

I did racing photography for several years and I can truly say that that is a great photo. The clarity and the way he stopped the action on the car and blurred the background showing the speed is excellent. My complements to the photographer. Is he still around?

I can tell you how it happened. I was there but wasn't fast enough to make the race. It was Santa Fe 1989 or 1990. The annual 200 lap race at the end of the season. Dry slick and total dust, couldn't see two feet in front of you. Something happened going into the third corner and the track was blocked. Nobody could see and just started to pile into the pile wide open, no lifting or braking, one after another. It was just a sick sound. There were more cars in the wreck than you can see in the picture. I think 10 or 12 total. Sheer destruction. Worst wreck I've seen in alot of years. Surprisingly, no serious injuries. The 77 was Steve Pastva, 56 was Gary Webb, 49 was Tom Rients (I think), the green car was Robert Pohlman Jr. (I think). I also think Paul or Frank Reber was in it. I'll never forget that day. Lee
One really has to wonder how this happened!

    Riverside, Calif.............."Motor Trend 500........Jan., 1967

This one was interrupted for a whole week by torrential rains.

USAC drivers always ran very well in the early Riverside races. They romped in this one.

Hey Copley - I found one more of your dad's. This was also Tri-County, later on, maybe 1972 ?

Mr. kite had just given Junior Spencr (#17) a push start, then pulled onto thetrack and the accident happened.
