JAMco front and rear springs, french headlights, shaved door handles, and all emblems gone as well. 248 inline, 4 speed, stock rear end (for now) BF Silvertowns on steel rims.

My latest build. Not quite finished yet. It is a '54 Chevy with a 250 inline. Completly worked head, mild cam, Offy intake, Langdon cast headers, Holley 390 4 barrell, 700r. The wheels are rollers but I already have a new set of black steelies with small derby bowtie caps on them and new tires that will go on when its finished.

Just working out the bugs now. I will be taking it to Hudsons Rod Shop just east of Knoxville next week for the interior.

By the way the interior isn't pink as the picture appears. It is actually GM truck interior original beige.

  9. Here's a 51 Chevy I did for my dad a couple of years ago. He had one when he was a young'n and I thought it'd be cool to put one together for him. He drives it about once or twice a month:)... I decided to go with the shop truck look since the paint was OK. I just buffed it and painted where I needed to, redid the wiring, interior, lotsa, lotsa, other stuff and a buddy did the sign work and striping...

Tom, how tall are you that you needed to lengthen the cab of your truck?

Here are some pics of my truck. Stock frame, stock engine and four speed tranny. All leafs but one removed in the back and three left in the front also with a 3" dropped front axel, and airbags to be able to steer.
Thinking about swapping the whitewall radials to blackwall bias plys.

FatDaddy, the 79 Chassis is too wide for these trucks unless you can get some serious offset rims.

If you don't mind the tires sticking way outside the fenders...

I'm not talking about the rear wheels, the front wheels. I've seen the swap done, and using stock wheels, the fender lip will sit right above the center of the tire.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. The stupid tire sticks out about 1 to 1 1/2" beyond the fender. Note the difference on my 1 ton panel between the front with a '79 heavy half and the stock rear.

My old 51 GMC. It was pretty good old truck. I racked up a few backroad miles on it last year. I wound up selling it (much to my Mom's disappointment). It was a 3/4 ton. Had the original GMC six in it which ran very well. I was pretty broke when I bought it. At the time I was making about 150 bucks a week and had to drive 40 miles one way to get to work. The fuel pump sorta worked. I wanted to get it on the road so I rigged up the setup below.

It worked well enough but sometimes the engine would starve for fuel. I have no idea how many miles I put on with it like that. When I took the truck to the casino I got a lot of weird looks from people at the gas station. I guess they had never seen someone having to stand on top of a truck bed to fill their tank :D I think the truck had a top speed of 50 mph but I had no way of knowing for sure since the speedometer didn't work. A few more pics:

I currently have a 52 Chevy 1 1/2 ton dump truck. It runs but needs some tune up work and brake work. Bought it mainly to haul logs and fire wood and the occasional load of scrap.

Think you could get away with running a stock 1955 chevy 15x5 steel wheel? To try to tuck it in somewhat?

Or ordering a 15x4 steelie from wheel vintique or somewhere similar?

I mean, if you bought a truck already treated to that swap, maybe theres a way to mask the added width..

I had a 54 Chevy 2dr sedan with a camaro clip. Was way too wide and dude had 15x7 wheels on it..it sucked.

I added 4x4 S-10 steel wheels up front with hubcaps and it looked really ok. They are ugly wheels, and theres no other choice but to run caps, but on a 54 with a more kustom vibe, it was the obvious choice..
