So i picked up a 49 Fleetline and considering changing up the front end..

what has been done out there?

    please post up!

  2. The hood latch is part of the grille support, I was looking at changing mine, it's not easy. It's also not easy to change and have it not look like ass.

But guys use '53 Chevy surrounds a lot, or have done things like just replace the middle bar, and those usually look okay. Should not be hard to come up with a picture of that, look in any mag or search for photos of 49-52 Chevys -

I'm planning on doing to mine what Bass did to this one, except I'll be using the stock 50 Merc grill:

Just saw this on Hot Rod Hot Line. Not sure what that bumper is but I think the grill is from a Chrysler or Imperial .....

  7. I haven't finished mine yet....

The vertical teeth are shot, but the horizontal pieces are ok.
I'm going to add 2 thin horizontal bars to the bottom opening, and one across the top. autozone had 3/8" chrome side molding stuff.

A low-buck mod back in the day was to just clean out all the vertical teeth. This is a shot of mine taken in 1958.

My approach was almost the same. I removed the lower vertical bars and added 5 1954 Chevy teeth to the stock center bar .....

Thanks! But remember that picture was taken in 1957 or 1958 and I bought the teeth at the local Chevrolet dealer.

DAYUM!!!! You just made me rethink my plans for the Merc grill/grill cavity...wouldn't copy yours and siphon off your coolness, though! :) You did that with the stock grill? Wow.....

I have a book here somewhere that used a '59 Chevy Impala grill cut to fit in a '51 Chevy Fleetline , they removed the center section out of the '51 and set the '59 grill in the void , looked awesome , the book was printed in '71 , and I got it around here somewhere , if I find it , I'll post some pics .mabye someone here has a pic of a '59 chevy grill in a '51 chevy?

That looks like a '59 Imperial grille, rare and pricey.
