John Banks flips during a 1976 125 qualifier race at Daytona (not the greatest picture scanned from a newspaper article).

GI, got any pic's like that of Richard's Dodge or other cars from the 70's ? This one is super clean, too bad that Al's mark is on it but still worth saving. Thanks.

When I raced there everyone complained it was harder to get around one and two. As far as reverse cambered etc. I called it debanked. I have never heard of a banked track called a cambered track. I say potato you say potahto. Allstarracing.

My sporty car & motor cycle friends refer to a corner with negative banking like the ones at Saugus as "off camber" :)

Those were all before I started to attend races at Riverside. Watched exerpts of Daytona race on TV..."Wide World of Sports", which was the only way you were going to see it in those days, short of attending. I did read "Competition Press" at the time (still do....now called "Autoweek") and peripheraly glanced at Sports car race results where I think that your father was a regular for some years. "Autoweek" has it's own website but I don't know how far back in time that they post their articles/pictures. You might want to check it out when you have time. Their race coverage/ pictures used to be tops (I posted some of their Nascar articles/pictures on pps 149,153, 156 and some others) and their sports car racing coverage was just as good in those days but in the last 20 years, or so, they have become more of a new car test/car show type of mag.

BTW, I did look at the website you gave for your father and that Riverside video was something else!

    Stasis,
If you would have anymore pictures of the car that Shanklin flipped. I would be more than happy to buy them from you.
That car was built by Dean Hamblin from LeRoy IL. Snow did some help on it as well. I remember being around Deans shop as a very young kid when that car was being built.

Ah tis' so with the wine and cheese croud. We here in the midwest call em sumbitches. The track at Beach Bend, Bowling Green Ky. was like that before the repaving. One and two fell off about eight inches. We were running late models there and Kenny Reiter backed the K&K Insurance short track Dodge hard into the wall. There was an entrance right in the middle of the turn so the drag cars could enter and use the track for staging. He hit the right side of the opening and mangled the Dodge. Anyone know what happened to the K&K cars? They were fabulous . Allstarracing

    Today's Post

This guy won a race or two..........

Don Gregory - taken at Kil-Kare.

Loved them old Chevelle's. If there was ever a car that looked like it was designed to be a short track race car....

    Enjoy
