This weekend I'm going to be swapping heads on the 318 in my dad's '57 swept side pickup. I've never done anything with a MOPAR and the only info I can find is for the later Magnum engines. What I need to know is the following: What is the torque spec for the head bolts? What is the torque spec for the rocker arm assembly? What is the torque spec for the intake bolts? Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Cylinder heads- 50 then 105 ft lbs in 2 steps Intake manifold- 25 then 45 ft lbs in 2 steps Rocker shaft- 17 ft lbs Hope this helps.
Worked at Dodge dealership for 10 years,remember,if you are using same pushrods and rockers make sure you put them back exactly like they came out,same pushrod in same place it came out of,or you will have problems.
there is a right and a left rocker, and you do need to have them matched up. one right and one left per cylinder. but not necessarily back to the original cylinder they came off of. i also reccomend turning the engine over while torquing the rocker shaft bolts. some of the valves will be on the open side of the cam. and even though the lifters will collapse a little you can get false torque readings and very easily snap a bolt.
opps just re read your post. im not sure if the 85 -89s still used the left and right rockers or not. worth checking though before final assembly.
