I spotted this place on the way to visit a friend of mine and had to stop on the way back. This guy had a lot of stuff. He was very nice and knowledgeable too. It's all original things, but still very cool. I stayed for about 1 1/2 hours and talked with him and he showed me all these cars and parts he had laying around. Here's some pictures I took. Beckley, WV Greyhound bus 1913 Roadster 1954 Nash Studebaker 1897 Horse drawn hearse Another Studebaker (horse drawn) 1908 Electric Commercial truck... this thing was huge. Gas pumps Franklin? Another old hearse RPU Mail Delivery More horse drawn cars sitting on the bed of that Electric truck And I had to get some pictures of my car sitting at the filling station also No self serve going on here He was kind enough to pump the gas!
Looks like he has been collecting for quite a long time. If that is/was a functioning gas station and he has owned it for a long time I'll bet a lot of that stuff just fell in the driveway over the years and he was there to take it off the hands of willing owners. Either that or customers turned him on to where he could aquire the stuff. Frank
Reminds me of travelling route 50 through WV some years back when I was collecting signs and saw this filling station from the 20's still had the visble pumps ourside stopped and the man was very nice. turned out he knew people in my hometown in Pa. and he showed me his collection in another building of model T's.I'm glad to see collections are still out there and there are still people who appreciate the spring wagons. When there gone there won't be anymore.Great pictures!
He apparently has been collecting since before the 1950's. He had trophy's in a glass case that he won from shows back in the 50's and 60's with different cars. The 1897 Hearse he had, I remember him telling me he bought it in 1951. And the T Roadster his dad bought when he was young. The filling station and his garage both were nearly completely full of antiques. I'm definitely going back and will spend more time down there. I'll ask him next time more about the old filling station. Dave
