You aren't just building a hot rod; you're building memories too. The smile on the young man's face says it all! Keep at it!

Well here is a smal update. We mocked up the front end and found out our wishbones are slightly too long. Not a problem we will shorten them up a tad. I also have a question for the board, what rear from what car is the correct width for the back of a model A? Thats next on the list to be done and I dont want to dump $1500 into this 9" if I dont have to. I was thinking that a mustang rear may be the correct width but im unsure.

Some of my fondest memories are spending time with my dad in the garage. Oh and I've got a '70 Mustang 8" under my '30 coupe. It fit perfectly with some old school Mopar 15x7 steelies.

This is great that you have 3 generations in the mix. I will be following this one.

Looks great! The Ford 8in is the perfect size for most model A's.

  14. Great to see you guys making progress. I've just started a project with my grandson (a not-so-HAMB-friendly '84 Ford (UK) Sierra wagon) to try to give the kid some skills and show him that there's more to cars than rice rockets. Hopefully, he'll stick with the build we've got planned (a kind of cross-over between hot rods and Imports) and eventually put together something more trad. It'll be fun, anyway...

Look forward to seeing updates on your project.

A family that plays together, stays together. Nice project that you'll have fond memories of. Cool.

So a mid 80's mustang 8.8 should work correct?

I ran a V-8 Maverick 8" under my sedan. Perfect width. Had to change the carrier/gears from 2.92 to 3.55

This is a great build and I am happy to see the three generations working on a hot rod together! So many today don't even spend time together. I just wish I could have built one with my oldest sons.

Thanks for the kind words guys. We try to work on it at least one day a week so thats when most of the updates will be. The plan this week is to make the front end a roller.

Well update time. we got the front wishbones shortened up and mounted. Also fitted the front rotors and claipers. The front wheels are temp spares from a crown vic and are 16" and are for just rolling it around. I know its kinda overboard but we are using AN bolts for all the suspension mounting points.

This will be a thread to watch for sure. You're a lucky man to have your dad and son into this hobby. Enjoy the build.

By the way, the body looks super nice.

The body looks very nice and doesn't appear to be to rusty. Don't worry about going overboard on any bolts your going to be riding around on them. I use grade 8 bolts on everything on my hotrods......
