OK I know im going to get SHIT for this but here goes Im looking for alum freeze out plug covers (inserts) for a sbc
I was thinking of copper for my Dodge Bros. If you start with a sheet and use a hole saw to cut out a disk. And then turn it to size on a lathe. Is that considered a billet? Or only if you part them off of a bar?
I am a little dissapointed that I didn't get an answer form the "Traditional" police concernong the acceptability of a disk cut from sheet as opposied to one plunged off of a bar. It seems the one from the bar would be the hated "Billet" whereas the disk cut from sheet would not. Correct? It sometimes seems to me that the choice often comes down to "Billet" or "Bought it". A lot of guys and some ladys have access to milling machines and lathes. Few can cast parts. When I need something out of the ordianry I often make it. As do many. Some make weldments. Some machine parts. Some reach for the Summit catalog. Maybe they can find a genuine casting of what they want from our friends in the Democratic Peoples Republic. Is that to be admired?
Hell Rich I'm not the trad police I'm the dumb police but I don't think they make copper billet. I'm a little more high tech than all that I would probably just use copper paint. Ya know its funny if I'm going to try and show in one of those upscale rich guy shows my pieces would be made of billet. But if I'm hanging out with the "trad" bunch they are made from aluminum either plate of bar. Its all a matter of semantics I guess. Oh I wasn't calling you dumb by the way you're one of the few I like.
I'd want clear ones so I can watch the coolant flow, kind of like watching the clothes in the washing machine... Have not seen the "billet" ones in a long time.
Once I had a GMC that for some reason I decided to tap the welsh plug holes and I made Billet brass screw in plugs. Not sure why but it seemed like a good idea at the time. For that matter it had billet rods. Went in the 8s in a nitro nostalga digger so the plugs couldn't have been to bad. My Morton & Brett head has some strange size holes that have been peened and generally beat on for the last 80 years to the point that I have decided to make copper disks and solder them in. My Plymouth has lots of Billet on it. head, rods, flywheel, duel distributer drive, injector base. Some jerk at Morty's Hot Dog feast was giving me a hard time about all the billet. My Ply. First car in the Hop Up 100mph club at the Hop Up picknic getting hasselled by some dope who can't make his own parts. Billet can be good.
WTF!!!!!!just paint them engine color!!!!if you have that much money and time on your hands buy some expensive peace of shit billet part that someone charged you 100 times more than its worth and then take a holesaw and drill out some freeze plugs,then pay someone acouple hundred dollars to weld the small pilot hole.OMG!!are you fn kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just went under some of your older posts and you want A HOLE bunch of cheep parts so why are you trying to break the bank on some dumb "freeze out plugs?"
Billet is a bar or round of bulk stock. Sheet isn't billet. Am I an idiot? I know what a 'freeze plug' is, what a 'freeze out plug' is, what an 'expansion plug', and what a fuckin' welsh plug is. Hasn't anybody got anything better to do than get all wrapped around the axle over how somebody describes a motor part when it's obvious what he meant? Question; Do you fuckin dictionary police get your rocks off after mind-fuckin' yourselves, and kiss the mirror after those brilliant revelations?
