Here are some pics of my frame. I have been at it for a year and a half and I feel quite slow. It is amazing how much the small stuff costs and kills your wallet. Anyway, in these pics you can see my steering conflict, and I haven't cut the plates that will run along side the grill for the shocks. I like the shape of this AC grill, and I got it for 40 bucks delivered, but I hate the rock sheild, it seems a little too tractorish' to me; so I am thinking of large chromed horizontal slats. Also, the 1/4 plates for castor arn't in, and teh steering arms are flipped the wrong way, so it looks toes out. I was going to start it yesterday, but I need gas, have to run the wires, snake a battery from one of my vehicles, snake an ignition wire, tighten up a bunch of frame stuff, and then she will go. I can't wait to hear my gear drive for teh first time! All responses respected, especially regarding my steering conflict. I need to take a Buddist approuch and love the journey, not the end result, I guess? Pork
You will get some flack for the tractor grille..but the general shape of it really does remind me of 1930s Indy cars. Do someting to the front of it to make it look more Indy.
Something shiny in there would go a long way towards that. The shape of it looks good though an not as much of an after thought as most tractor grill shells. It will work if it flows into the rest of the truck and doesn't have that scabbed on for effect look when you are done.
Maybe some stainless mesh would be good. A question; what's up with the heater hose? I guess you are planning ahead for a heater in the truck? Only reason I ask; the way it is gives the heated coolant a shorter path back to the motor instead of going to the radiator to give off heat, but then you already knew that, right? Keep up the good work, you'll get there.
A frozen 3/4 nipple in the manfold leaves me no choice to route manifold to suction in pump. I know it is ugly but I haven't looked at other options; suggestions appreciated. Pork
Also, any suggestions for baffles; It has 3 inchers in it now, but I know I will need more. I want to chrme tip each one and flat black the pipes Pork
I'd like to see a pic or two of the Dodge cab. If it's really a '30 Dodge cab, it would probably be kind of rare. Not that many were built.
South Fork, You nailed me on that one; it's a 30 Dodge sedan cut in half, which I hand fabbed a bunch of panels for and will be putting a fabric roof on. The cool thing is that it has a very frankenstein look with the visor off the windshied and front of the posts. I will post some pics, regardless. Pork
yes. it's difficult to tell in the pic, but it doesn't look like anything is welded to the axle to keep the angle right on the plates.
There will be a plate welded to front and back of the axle, and that small, 1/4 inch tab will be then drilled and bolted to the bone/torque bar with two 5/8 bolts. Pork
There are brackets cut already to be welded to the axle tube that will then be bolted directly to the homemade rear bones. Pork
some cabs pics that are old but the cab hasn't changed except that I have abbed the entire back of the cab now. I am going to do a wood framed roof and then a vinal flat top. It was originally a sedan 1930 Dodge/ Pork
You know ,I tried 3 times and wasted 15 damn minutes and each time they loaded but don't show up, screw it.
Dang, we like pics.. can you try uploading just one, and then click on PREVIEW to see if it will work?
Lowered 4 inches, but now I need to drop the grill shell. Is she too low and starting to cross the weird line now?
I really like the height of the body, but the grill looks a little high now. I can't get the grill shell much lower because I only have 1/4 inch betwen the shell and the radiator and maybe an inch between the lower rad pan and the crossmember. It's funny; I jack the body up 2 three inches to make the grill level and it really changes the dynamic of the car. Whadya think?
