OK Have a C4 Trans. What is the shift pattern when moving the shift lever? Front of car P-R-N-D-2-1 Back of car Front of car 1-2-D-N-R-P Back of car Thanks in advance and sorry for the silly question. -LarryG
The factory shifter is p-r-n-d-2-1. If your doing your own. The best I can suggest is to move the linkage into park. Which on a C-4 is all the way down towards the floor. The front rod (nearest the engine) is for the shifter. The rear is for the kickdown / passing gear , that hooks up to your carb.
Thanks.. Just to clarify... If I grab the lever on the side of the transmission and the move it all the way to the front of the car this is Park? Or is this 1st?
Front of car P-R-N-D-2-1 Back of car Can't remember what the side of the transmission looks like, so I can't help you too much on the linkages. If you need more help, let me know and i'll crawl under my Mustang and investigate.
SILLY is right, If you can't figure this one out on your own, you should turn in your Alliance membership. old Bob
Yah I know. So here is the story I got this F--d for my daughter. I know Mopar, I know Chevy.... Who knew Ford was so different. I figured I had a 50/50 chance. The trans is missing the shift lever but has the kick down lever. They are both on the same shaft... So far this has been all kinds of fun ;/

As far as you can. once you can go no further, and the trans feels in gear....then put a channel locks on the tail shaft. I she does'nt move, You've found Park. Work from there.
On the earlier [60's] C-4 we are working with: With the lever on the transmission pointed up; to the rear park, next forward reverse, then neutral. Have put in a manual reverse valve body so from there forward goes 1-2-3, otherwise stock would have been drive,2,1 [most forwared]. Ed
