Is this differential gear junk?

    This is what I saw when I pulled the cover off my Buick parts car. About a 1/3 of the inside of the ring gear looks to ground off. I assume it's junk, am I right? The pinion gear, at least that's what I think it's called, looks good as far as I can tell. This isn't any metal laying in the bottom of the center section.

    I was gonna say they don't come much junkier... but sadly they do.

    Well then, it's going with the metal on the trailer heading to the scrap dealer tomorrow.

    Betcha that howled like a banshee when they were driving it.
