I actually thought that the one and only time that Big Olds would be immortalized in granite would be on my headstone and that time would be down the road a bit. Since meeting Greg AKA Guiseart almost five years ago and seeing his work in person many, many times, my plan has always been for him to make my headstone and do a etch of Big Olds into it.

Well once I started designing my new kitchen a few months ago an idea popped into my head. Why not do a granite centerpiece in my backsplash, specificly the space behind the stove. My thought was this is a spot where alot of folks stand while cooking. Why not look at something really cool....or at least cool in my book.:D

I PM'd Greg, told him what I had in mind and he ran with it. I had Mike AKA Buick59 send him my most favorite photo of Big Olds but instead of the highway and sign as the background like what is actually in the original, I asked Greg to do a salt flat speedway background, which is one of my most favorite places on earth and a place that I've driven Big Olds to for many years.

So, once the piece arrived I couldn't wait to instal it.

Since it's a very heavy 12 x 12 inch piece of granite I took extra precautions in making sure the piece stayed stuck during curing.:D

It's hard to take a good photo of it as there is alot of glare and the camera didn't seem to want to focus. The pictures don't do the detail justice

Once Greg knew I got it he passed along in process photos of the piece.

I tired one last photo trying to block the reflective glare.

I'd like to take this opportunity to THANK Greg from the bottom of my heart. I LOVE the piece. It's stunning. I know I'll get a ton of compliments on it during parties and get together with my car pals. Other "normal" friends probley won't get it but since they do know me they'll understand at least. :D

Here is the link to Greg AKA Guiseart's HAMB profile. Feel free to PM him.

He is SO reasonable. I was blown away at what I thougth was an extremely fair price. Trust me when I tell you it was the single cheapest item in my new kitchen.;) Anyway, to be fair please PM Guiseart and ask him directly. I don't want to quote a price for someone else's piece. Tell him you're a friends of Denise's and ask for a HAMB discount.:D

My Mom and I were talking about this the other day. I can "get away" with a very distinct, unusual style in my decorating because I don't have to take anyone elses feelings, ideas or thoughts into concideration.

Wait till you see my new kitchen island.:D

Does this mean you're planning to get cremated??? :D

He did a great job on your backsplash / tombstone. It really looks good. I sure hope you get to do a lot of 'backsplashing' before you need the marker!!

I seriously doubt that will happen. I'm surprised that Denise hasn't mentioned it but her house was owned by her grandmother and leaving it MIGHT be out of the question.
NOW, if the proper suitor were to appear that might change everything. Any volunteers/applicants? If interested, just forward your intentions to me for pre-screening. She doesn't have enought time to weed through a bunch of deadbeats and perverts (well, maybe the perverts but to be safe contact me:))
