TECH: Make a Bellhousing out of an old Intake Manifold!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by loudpedal, Apr 11, 2010.

  1. Dude just cause you got a flat head in the back of the truck and wont take it out, does not mean you need a mag drive for it. You would just sell it any way.

Kris I read the entire thread and gave it my vote. Very well done, we all need to come up and see this in action some time so I can build one.

This thread is AWESOME. I've been doing some silver investment and sand casting, but this takes the casting / foundry knowledge to a higher level.

Fantastic post! It's half the reason why I signed up to the H.A.M.B!

I am currently tracking down the parts needed for my own set up. Thanks again!

I was out at our local recycler the other day, they had a dumpster full of aluminium wheels like a junk yard had dropped them off, I bet that you could buy them by the pound, I've purchased other scraps there before.]

Also great job on the tech and congrats!

Wow! This thread is amazing. I've got a friend in OZ that has cast some parts for me, and I wondered how it was done.

Thanks for the votes you guys! Thanks To Baileigh for doing this too! THIS IS AWESOME!! I'm going to get the bead roller... It'll come in handy for a big 34 3w project I'm gearing up for! I've got to go make a phone call... :)

  21. This is an awesome thread from beginning to end and a well deserved win even just for the fact of how many of us have been inspired to get out and cast our own parts...myself included! Thanks loudpedal!

Is there any home type of test to tell if those "aluminum" wheels i've been gathering are really ALUMINUM? You know, like hitting them with a grinder to see if there are any sparks or pouring a little of some liquid on them to see if it boils?

Is there a difference in cast aluminum? I have access to a number of air conditioning compressors. They look like a nice smooth casting. Is it the process they used to cast them, or the alloy used?
