Hello from Florida. This is my first post however I have been reading this entire thread with great interst for the last several weeks. I have just received delivery of a car from Calif. that has been represented as a 68 Schnieder sprint car with a 351 Cleveland engine. Great car, recieved as described, very happy but little confirmed history. Was told the car is a C.R.A. car and previous owners were gentlemen by the names of Bob Jones and Chuck Godfrey. Drivers, Allen Heath, Ace Duncan, Walley Pankratz, Chuck Hatcher, Rodger Godfrey, Jay East and Sammy Sauer. Have done a google search on the names and they do come up but nothing that is specific to this car. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    RacerBillyC,
If you pm me your email, I can send you a picture of the Dimarco car.
For Denny, as far as I know, Tom lives in Fla. and Lou passed several years ago.

    Hello Denny,

I am Jerry Karl`s nephew. I`m sure you don`t know me because I was just a kid back when you and Jerry raced in URC. I was ten in 1967. Actually you two ran USAC at the same time, you made the 500 before Jerry did.
My Dad was Tony De Seta,he was Jerry`s mechanic and Jerry married my aunt Linda, and my Dad was already married to her older sister, who is my mom.
I go by Tony De Seta as well. Lost Dad in 2000 and Jerry in 2008. I really miss all the times we used to have racing.

I`m glad you found this place, there are some terrific people that hang out in this thread on the HAMB.

Hello Tony/Buildy, Thanks...now I know. Yup I got to Indy before Jerry did but he made the show more times than I did. Also as you probably know each year URC awarded rookie of the year however in 66 URC had co/rookies of the year Jerry, Al Liquesto and myself. Lucky for me I got to Indy before those two guys or I might have had to shared again. Your Uncle was a great racer and a good guy too. Denny Z

Many years ago (20+) there was a fellow out of So. Cal. by the name of Schnieder who campainged a upright sprint at the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. IIRC he had a background building oval cars and was associated with and sponsored by Speedway Engineering. Don't know if it the same guy but you might contact S/E and see if they have any info.

Pete Schnieder was his name. He did build a Pike's Peak car, which I believe his daughter Marie might have driven up the hill one year. Pete built the first T.Q. I crewed on for Jack Zimmerman (no relation to Denny) in the early 80's. Pete built several T.Q.'s, mostly square-tube-framed coil cars. Jack's was unique in that it had a round-tube frame, something I believe he requested.
Pete also manufactured a cast aluminum magneto-fuel pump drive that mounted on the "front" of the Honda engines we ran. Nearly everybody that ran a Honda-engined T.Q. in SoCal had a Schnieder drive on their car.
Unfortunately, both Pete and Marie have passed away, but someone should be able to I.D. the car. Wally would be a good place to start.

Yes, she did indeed drive the car which is why the name rang a bell in my foggy old memory :) Thanks!

    Al,
I think it might have been Freddy Charles (Fred Heydenreich). I don`t know the driver, but his Kurtis Roadster was #33.

    RacerbillyC,
Sprinter2 posted several photos of the 98, is that enough or do you need more?
