What do you think when you see a 426 Hemi in a traditional hot rod? Puke or drool?

Why does/doesn't it work in a hot rod?

    Thanks!

I either think of Muscle cars or these.....

Both are fine but I wouldn't put it in a Hot Rod. Full out drag car (stock body or flopper type) but not something open wheeled unless you were aiming for late 60's early 70's style.

    Cool motor though.

  3. Who cares if its traditional,,,,,,its badass.

If you mean late 50s or earlier traditional, nope, it isn't. It can'y be because they weren't available. Unless you are building a PURE traditional ride, I would have no hesitation using it. It will always draw a crowd.

To get back on track, They are cool in any kind of car. The main thing is, it has to be 60's or 70's style. It would look dumb in a 40's style rod.

Ahh, those words again. It depends on what you define as 'traditional'.
What 'Hotrod' are we talking about.

If it's a Willys, sure. I couldn't think of a better engine to power one of the most iconic Hotrod's of all time. Even if it's an A Model coupe with bigs 'n littles and a straight axle. I think that's traditional.

Shoehorning an elephant into a '32 roadster that looks more at home on a dirt track or the drylakes, then no, it's not traditional.

  10. late models are only good when theyre on 93%...

  11. I'd use it. Why not? I'm not sure if Ii'd necessarily put it in a '40s car, but '50s & '60s - absolutely!

Bolt on a set of cast finish M/T valve covers and an 8:71 GMC blower on it... The people will smile.

edit: Yes it is a 426, not a early hemi, and no, it's not mine :(

prewarcars4me i'm on your side, thanks for saying what you said.

Newbie or not you are right on the mark!

  23. id say the 426 is as traditional as most other v8's

but for me if you want to be way traditional with a hemi then you should run a whale instead of an elephant

but do what YOU like and say to HELL with the naysayers

I love hemis in a mopar or any other car, but for a rod I would say 392 and smaller hemis are more traditional for that era.......:)

The key word here is traditional! With that said then no 426 Hemis! If its traditional then it needs a rear distributor/magneto period. I am not knocking a 426 but thats a muscle car motor not a traditional hot rod motor.

If you never open the hood would that make a difference? Well, let me tell you (being a firm chevy believer) if I ever find myself in posession of a 426 you can rest assured it will find it's way into a '32 Ford that has my name on the title. Another thing you can count on is it will have 3 pedals.
