    Mike Wansels comet

This picture’s so old they didn’t have color film yet! Left to right is Tom Brown, Me, my oldest brother Randy, and Cliff Sasfy. The car belonged to me, and was a 1964 comet cyclone with a 289 cu. inch motor and Holly 4-barrel. I had installed a Racer Brown camshaft with solid lifters, and a 411 rear gear to give it more “gazoopa’s” off the line. I also had a set of 2″ dumps welded into the exhaust header, as I couldn’t afford after market headers at the time. The tires on the rear were Atlas Bucron’s with just the slightest bit of tread on the wide tire.

I have a couple of pic's of my '64 Cyclone, but not sure how to post.

bought in Jan 1964 in Organge county calif.
    blk/blk 4 speed 289/210

I knew about 271's later that year. They sounded great ,mine had hydraulics and the 271's had solids, thats all i can say , I heard them.

i lived in Garden Grove and Jardine Headers were also there,I also had a slight mod to my engine ...my memory is shot but i think it was at Hayden Proffitt garage,or maybe Keith Black, just gettin to old.

All they did was some kind of tweak to my distributer and timing.
My car was strictly a street car i was only 18 or 19...it was great.I seem to remember getting 30 to fifty tickets with it in a few months...lol
i even did five days in jail at theo lacy security facility for drag racing, just off Garden Grove blvd by the Santa Ana River.

I had the car until the mid '70's at which time i drove it off a small mountain in woodside calif.

    I want another one!:D

Thank you guys for all the pic's taking me down memory lane.
    I ran my car at lions a couple times e or f stock...mid 15's at 113 mph

Saw GAS Rhonda roll his ford there and Garlits run in the '7s with front engine dragsters...it was all great !
and saw all of the first funny Cars, the Comets !

Heres a close up of the air cleaner emblem that I used.I did have to modify the area to fit it but not much,it was close.I bought the emblem out at Crites. Its not in there catalog.I guess a local guy makes them and drops them off.At the time they only had three of them and I bought all three. This was two years ago so I'm sure they have some more.I think its looks good on there.Let me know if they dont have any I could probanly break loose of one.
