Looking around for custom tail light stuff for my Olds. I'd like a light that spans the whole width of the car. Specific width isn't important as widening or narrowing is no big deal.

    So....any ideas?

I've come up with '66/67 Chargers
    Late '60's t-birds...

Mid-'60s Imperials ('64 - '66) had an interesting taillight set-up, too, that you might look at.

1968 Imperial has a really cool taillight set-up. Several of the cars mentioned above do not have side to side full taillights. Another is a 65 or 66 Buick Skylark.

  13. I think it would be cool if the stock tail lights continued across the back panel. Cut out the areas in the middle of the stainless trim (where it says O-L-D-S-...)and replace with red plastic, or 5 or 6 lens' side by side. It might sound weird, but it looks cool in my mind!

By the way, I rode to school everyday my senior year in my buddy's 64 Olds. He hated it, but I kept telling him it could be cool...

I thought the same thing too - I believe all the way up to the '72 Javelin/ AMX.

I think the 66-7 Charger taillamps would be the most appropiate for that application. And use the sequential turn signals out of a T-Bird.

'64 Buick Wildcat was the first production car I remember with a full width taillight.

Thanks guys. I think the Charger is still going to be the best bet as well. Now to find one and see what is involved. Probably best ot just whack the whole rear end off of one.

The Chrysler 300 idea is good too. I'd have to trim a lot of fat off of two sets and stack them I think, but it would work.

  18. Some of the cars I mentioned do not have them completely across, but they DO allow for shortening of the assembly without much problem, that is why they were mentioned.

 I've been messing with it for a few weeks...update soon!

The Skylark one would be the perfect size, but the shape of it is a little too flared to work. The Imperial too.

Many of the others are too tapered at the end, or leaned in too much at the top.

I still think I'm set on the Charger light. I'd have to make my own lens but no biggie.

This is nothing I'll be playing with any time soon I don't think, but I wanted to get a good idea. The way the car is designed on the back end, I can to anything I want in the tail panel without having to touch the quarter panels, decklid, bumper, etc. So if the car happened to be being repainted ( ;) ) then later on, I wont have to mess that paint up to do this.

  26. If budget is an issue, 66-67 Charger will probably be expensive, but guys use up those Imperials for demo cars, and the few guys who restore them won't mess with parts that aren't perfect, so you should be able to find a set cheap.

Then again, '69 Mercury full-size, you might be able to buy the whole car for what the taillights off one of the others would cost. And drive it home -

Dont, or at least dont tell anyone about it. You would never be able to live it down.

Yep, I have to agree. That's one sweet looking
ride, just the way it is!. Bodywise, I'd think long
and hard before changing it too much. One of my
absolute and "got to have someday, before I die"
'dream cars' would be a '64-'65 Skylark, with a
built, 455 Stage-1 swapped into it Talk about
a "sleeper" and "packing an iron fist in a velvet
    glove
    "! :)

Get a couple more sets of lights and make your own. Put the chrome 'OLDSMOBILE' letters back over the lights in the same location (forgive the crappy mspaint). Don't forget the Tbird taillight sequencers.
