40 ford, mufflers other than Smithys?

  1. I have been a fan of Smithy's, but will try Porters the next time around for the 8BA.

So the longer the muffler the quieter the sound?

  4. Well mine's not a flattie but a Ford Yblock. It's getting "Porterized" next week - FINALLY! Got the mufflers from Clark last year and looking forward to hearing it with the Porters installed.

Next project might be my son's 47 SuperDelux Fordor. When the time comes that ol' flathead will also get dual Porters.

I've got the short (22") Smithys and love them! If I were to try something different, however, I'd buy Porters.

I put a set of Flowmaster 2 chambers on the last flathead I built. The best sounding muffler at Idle I have heard as long as you have a cam in it. They are built like a tank and use no packing material. Also running them on my SOHC Talladega. I run Smithy's on my 50 Ford Flathead and will run them on my 40 Merc when I convert it to duels later this year great traditional sound.

I'm no expert... but I've set a lot of stuff on fire...and I'm pretty sure its a bad Idea to stuff your exhaust with steel wool.
