I bought a used motor and it has AL heads on it, one is trashed, 2 holes are hammered, I cant find any name on it. The only markings on it are 1) between the center cylinders they are
    LAC
    8217
    23-600
    65-1

    2) on the exhaust side just above the ports they are

    23-600-65-1 PBM
    0998-4620

I googled the numbers and the closest match I can find was on Jegs, I called and the told me that they MAY be Canfields. I was told they went under, is this true? Does anybody know what these numbers mean (are they code for the spec's) Are they anything special? Worth fixing? I was told about $500 from my machine shop. Should I try and sell the good one? or find a good one to make a set? Keith

I will try to post some pics tomorrow cant upload photos here at work. I'm thinking with some TIG build up and some time with a porting tool and a valve job I can fix them. Keith

Yes with the right alloy filler you can fix most any aluminum head, most of the time it requires removing the seats, filling, machining, installing new seats and a valve job!

Canfield Cylinder heads is out of business thank god.I got screwed over by them big time when they sold me a set of alum. heads that were not heat treated, but we didn't find that out till the engine was dynoed & a compression check indicated low comp. in both heads. The valve seats were sinking into the heads & they were deforming, because they were not heat treated & their answer was to damn bad because you actually used them.May they rot in hell , is the way I feel.Hope you have better luck with yours in getting them fixed.
