Some great shots here.Being east coast based they kept an eye out for how their boys did.Pretty good,I'd say.
Garlits redlit, think it was 1st time for xmas tree at Indy.Correct me if wrong.Ohio George put it to S-W-C.Gene Altizer winning class and Charlie Hill in the Filthy Forty winning C/G.Nice shot of Tony Nancy,he was running Olds wasn"t he?[IMG]

This a 2 page spread showing the class winners with write up.It will take 2 posts to get it all on.Of particular interest to me was Ron Abbott in the Chevy powered "Hellzapoppin" from Albany,NY,running Big for the trophy. They would match race at my local track,SG[IMG]F,in 66 on fuel.

Bucksnort, was that the original "Hellzapoppin" or the longer chassis car? The original is now under restoration in Carmel, N. Y.

Not sure but I think it was short one.Ran gas with it.The longer one was fuel but I have been wrong before.Last year at Lebanon Valley swap meet ran into some guys who knew where one of the Hellzapoppin cars were and they said he was going to put it on Egay but don't know if he did.
Might be same guy in Carmel

One of my favorite drag racing photos is this flag start @ Aquasco:

Another Eastern Drag News shot (from a '63 cover). Tex Randall at 75-80. At that time I believe he was running high 8's/low 9's

Tex was a standout among fuel racers on the east coast. Who knows what he would've achieved in the sport had he not died in '65.

About Tex,think there is a piece in an issue about his death coming up.Too bad he was gone early.Seems he was always on the EDN list of top 20 fuelers.

I'd been interested in seeing a scan of that piece on Tex's death (which was the last weekend in June, 1965)

    Thanks,

Here's Tex Randall's "KEMO-SABAY" dragster on the cover of Drag Times, april 2nd 1965 and also (center spread). Tragically he died from a crash at Aquasco speedway only two months later.

Here's a scan of the last issue to be called "Virginia and Maryland Drag News" dated March 30, 1962. Inside it says the next issue will be the start of "Mid-Eastern Drag News".
Check out the crazy headers on the Kingsman's digger. The second shot shows my old buddy Ronnie Bohn working on his Bantam. Mike
