You'll never catch me driving a Ford truck. But if I ever did, I'd want it to look an awful lot like this one. One of our very own, the incredible Gambino built "Butt Crack". Suede panel painted perfection. Green for the money and gold for the honey.

I love the exhaust on this. This picture is one of the reasons I decided to run mine similarly. Besides the excellent truck, the photo in and of itself is killer. Composition, color (lack of), angle, lighting, everything about it says "pro shooter" and genuine art.

This is just some of kinds of stuff I like to see when I'm thinking about trucks. Which is most of the time.

i think these trucks look best an inch or two higher in back rakewise, even if not so low... what's your take on visors? i don't really care for them, but once in a while i see a truck that makes it work.

    Thanks!

Lol, I've got both those pictures saved too. I dig that green, but not for my truck. And I like the down low on the other one. I feel exactly the same way about the visors. I'm not going to run one. But they look good on some trucks. Mostly bomba-ish trokitas with fog lights and accessories.

This is the nicest truck I have ever seen. It's perfect.

Oh and you should be happy to know that my '54 probably will go unchopped Terd. I am going to try to save it for my son's first car. I'm thinking 327 with tricarb and lowered more in front then back. A hot Rod instead of a custom!

As for the exhaust, I'm going to get Fentons. I'll order them tomorrow. I wanted something different, but I can't swing a vette manifold and I found out the ones I heard about was a rip off of Fentons. The ones I was looking at were sold by National Chevy Association and called Williams.

So long story short, I'm getting real Fentons from Patrick's. I say "real" because he's the only one I know for sure sell Fentons from the original molds. Speedway ripped him off for the name and has theirs produced in some other country. Do a search here if you're interested. Same kind of deal with the Williams. I'll keep my money in this country for parts made in this country by Americans. So Patrick's it is.

6inarow turned me on to another guy out in Oregon that casts manifolds, Don Graham at chevysixes. They're really nice too. I would've gotten these, but they lack provisions for a heat tube and I can't get them soon enough. There seems to be two sides to the heat tube story so I figure better safe than sorry. Having the heat tube is for sure not going to hurt anything. Not having it may or may not cause problems. After all the trouble and downtime, why take a chance? At least that's the way I see it. And speaking of downtime, my truck's been down a couple of weeks already and I can't afford another two or three. That's the soonest I could get them. I can have Fentons in a few days.

That said, I talked to the owner on the phone. He's a super nice guy with a love for inlines. He took plenty of time to answer all my stupid questions, which I like a lot. They're cast in a local foundry and he machines and hand finishes the castings. They include flanges for your exhaust pipes and chrome ceramic coating is an option. They certainly look like quality and after talking to him, I don't doubt that they are. So if you're looking for an alternative to Fentons, you should check him out. If I could've gotten them sooner, I'd have bought a set.

    ***Disclaimer***
I don't have any interest in this guy's company other than they're made in the USA and they sure look nice. Thanks 6inarow!

I ordered the Fentons from Patrick's today. They'll be here in two weeks. It sucks that my truck will down that much longer, but that's the breaks sometimes. It wouldn't have been any sooner anywhere else with having to mail a money order (I've boycotted Paypal and Ebay due to their anti-2nd Ammendment stance) and then wait on the delivery. Plus, I know I'm getting legit Fentons by going straight to the source. Plus he cut me a KILLER deal and was super great to talk to!

Do not hesitate to do business with Patrick's Antique Cars And Trucks! Class act, very knowledgeable, and a nice guy to boot!

So for now, I'm just going to keep on choppin' wood trying to get that intake and the air cleaners looking good. I'm still making progress, but it's slow. It'll all be worth it in the end!

  11. Good job my man!

Let us know when you get them in. We'll be there to help if you need it.

It's going to be so long now, I don't know if I want to do all that. They'll come bare from the foundry. I might just get some bbq paint on them and go. I'm losing my mind. I absolutely love driving the truck and I'm ready to get back in it asap!

Just wanted to say that your truck is awesome! I love this thread and reading about your progress. My brother has 10-12 of these trucks in many different setups and he isn't driving any of them.... He has the original '57 Chevy long bed that our dad had back in the 1960s. He had it going for a while, but set it aside to work on his '55 Belair Hardtop.... Anyway, awesome story and truck!!!

Dude, honestly it's one day to do all of that. I actually don't mind flash marks as it looks older but for your sake I would sand them sound and make them smooth. Then again, I thought this was the KING OF TRUCKS.

    Thanks a bunch!

Do you remember how you were telling me about the guy who said the engine should be like the jewel and the engine should be like the box? We also talked about how maybe a shiny header would take away from the intake. So if I paint the header black to sort of follow that theory, you really won't notice the name or the casting marks.

I don't really know, I'm undecided. I just know I want to get back driving it again. I miss the noise, I miss my music, and I miss the fun of shifting. I miss my truck.

That's probably the smartest thing to do. If you think it needs something else then we can always pull it off next winter and make it purty.

I talked to Patrick's, the Fentons are supposed to ship out on Monday. I hope they'll get here soon! I've been working on the intake and air cleaners. I got it to 1,000 grit. I've still got 1,200, 1,500, and 2,000 grit to go. I decided to use a little nevrdull to see how they were looking. I needed a little inspiration to continue, lol. :D It looks pretty good. Nice and shiny. Not perfect, but pretty dang good! I'm gonna keep going til the Fentons get here, but check it out for now...

Dude! You're killing me! :D There's already a couple of spots I'm not happy with I'll have to go back to 200 grit and fix up. I just want the fentons get here in time to drive to the party!

Hey Terd - Your truck is pretty cool for a Chevy:) May I suggest a wonderful chrome polish that is called AUTOSOL. Made in Germany and lousy on chrome but Boy, does it shine aluminum. It works on a chemical level to break down the aluminum oxide.
If you cannot find it locally I will gladly send you a tube. When I have family or friends visit me from the old country I always make them bring me AUTOSOL! The polishing rag becomes black so you know it works. It will leave a greasy film so you need to get rid of that with wax.

I also have a tiny update. I finally got a tracking number for the fentons. They'll be here on the 13th. I was for sure hoping for a sooner arrival but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I picked up a couple of cool things at the swap meet today. I also got to see some old friends from out of town and put some faces to names for the innernetz buddies here. I got a killer old glass door knob I'm gonna run in place of the stocker shift knob until I start sorting out the interior on down the line. It's got that purplish sheen that only old glass gets after a century of life. I also got a nice old metal carry type tool box. I'd been looking for a small portable box to carry in the truck for a while but didn't want to pay a bunch. $12 for this one was ok with me. And finally, I picked up an Appleton S-550 purely for speculation purposes to help out with funds for lowering stuff. Not as popular or expensive as the 112s and 552s but it'll raise a little scratch nontheless.

Sorry I haven't had more exciting news. But it won't be long now before I'll be multi carbed and blanged out in the engine bay ridin' around just a hollerin'. :D

Great minds and all that, hahahaha! :D

Have you been looking for a McGurk twin pot with Carters too? Cause my buddy Deltron picked one up for me today at the big swap meet for super cheap! :D

Now I've really got my work cut out for me. I've got to figure out do I run the McGurk? With twin Carters or twin glass bowl Holleys? Polish it or leave it bead blasted? Or run the Offy with twin Rochester B's I've spent the last six weeks of blood, sweat and tears polishing? The Offy/Rochester set up is ready to go. The Carters and the Holleys would need kits. Decisions, decisions! I guess it could be a lot worse than trying to decide between two super cool pieces of speed equipment!
