This just came out in my daily newspaper.Interesting story.Thought everyone would like it.http://daily-journal.com/archives/dj/display.php?id=453829 (Tomb of the buick ) Sorry I'm not a computer whiz or I would have a direct link.Hope this works
Interesting find. I wonder what the story was behind it's burial? A widows memento of a dead husband? Maybe the car was used in a murder and then stashed away??
It really doesn't look like it was burried, rather hidden in a hole under the house. Tracking the VIN should be a piece of cake.
Hi, your link works fine... What a cool find! (When I was in high school in L.A. back in the late-1960s, one of my friends had a '58 Buick hardtop (salmon pink and charcoal) that we used to cruise in.) We all dream of a barn find like the one you unearthed. Thanks!
I'm going to keep watch to see if any other info turns up on the rest of the story. How it got there,who,why,etc..If anything comes up I'll post new info.
I bet what happend was four guys stole $100 million in gold bars, sashed the loot and the Buick, built some suspended animation chambers, set them to reopen after 50 years when nobody would remember the theft. When they woke up they probably had a falling-out and wandered into the desert and died of thirst.
Did they dig deeper for a Cadillac? What year did Hoffa disappear? "apparently intentionally buried in this unlikely space in 1971".
There has got to be a good story behind that one. Hid from the EX, hid from the repo guy or hidden from the law?
I wonder if the guy that has the last reply at the bottom of the story is telling the truth. I know that I have done some wierd things while thinking of how someone will react when they uncover what I have done.
Yep. I reckon that it's called 'Marking one's territory'. I put an Iver Johnson38spl (what was considered a Saturday night special) under the new floor I was putting in a house I was getting ready to sell. The cylinder was cracked and I threw that in the trash, so the remaining frame was virtually useless. I assured that by 'de-milling' the action. I knew full well that somebody, someday, was likely to find it and the resulting specualtion might entertain them for a long time. I also have a habit of finding an old worn out wallet and putting a dollar bill in it, to hide under the back seat or behind the trunk insulation when I'm selling a car............... Hiding an entire car; now that's a lot of work. I 'd like to think it was in response to some divorce action and the car was hidden in the house the woman ended up with!
I like the guy who says it is only worth 2-5K in working order and $500 as is. Guy must not have priced a 58 Buick lately. Hell, even as pure scrap metal it is worth more than $500 - those things are HEAVY. Cool story, hope to hear more details as to why it was buried.
Illinois doesn't keep records that long, if that car was burried in the early 70's any record of the VIN is long gone by now.
Thats a cool story, I grew up in Chicago but I never happened onto anything like that. I hope the real story of this comes out, it should be real interesting.
Heres an update on the buried buick.I don't know how much truth there really is to this story anymore,it's questionable.Anyway here http://daily-journal.com/archives/dj/display.php?id=454040s the link
