I have s10 spares on the front of my A coupe right now. They look awesome but obviously I'm not gonna be doing much driving with temporary tires on there. I really like the size of the setup though. They are 155/90 -16 on a 16x4 steel wheel. I'm wondering what equivalent tire size I might be able to find. I'd love to get some sort of radial on there... but I know they generally don't come that skinny.... will I have to use a bias ply tube tire? Like a 500x16?? I'm just not sure.
Try the Coker Excelsiors. Radial tires with bias ply looks and sizes. Get your Alliance membership and save some dough in the process.
Lol I actually did but I don't think the side wall is sturdy enough. I'd probably be better off just keeping the spares on there and never driving over 50mph! haha ( in regards to bike tires)
yeah..smart move.. motorcycle tires are not designed for the side loads..especially the side loads for using as front tires. i think you may have to conciter 15's as a wheel size..and i think there is still a 155 series out there..used for the VW crowd.. dont give up until you have to
You'll likely have to go to a 15 inch rim. You'll then have several options available in radials such as a 145-80-15, 155-60-15, 155-80-15 and 165-80-15.
Doing the math on the tire sizes Drag Raised gave, the 165-80-15 will be the same width (within tire mfr's variances at least) and roughly 1.5" shorter overall (diameter) than the S10 spares you're running now (drop the front 3/4" roughly).
165/80R15s have been a very common size to use a front runners. Like Coryw said, the vary slightly between the mfg, so the height is usually around 25" tall. Shameless plug..I have new 165s for $50 each
That's good to know. Right now my caster is at exactly 7. I'm slightly concerned that dropping it another .75" in the front would throw that off... maybe I could just let more air outta the back tires... LOL
A buddy of mine has motorcycle tires on his roadster.... hes put 70,000 miles on the car with a couple different sets on it.... Tey actually have a higher load rating the the 145r 15 on the front of my car.... dont listen to the "The sky is falling group" motorcycle tires are fine
