What are you doing with your car stuff when you die?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by falconwagon62, Jan 6, 2008.

  1. My wife knows the value of what I have, as do my sons, so anyone trying to steal a "bargain" once I have achieved room temperature will be disappointed. What they do with the stuff after I am gone, quite frankly, I do not care, since I would be dead and would not have any say-so.

my car stuff goes to the club they will sell it and give it all to my wife. I don't want to have her try to deal with all the crap i am accumulating

  3. Well, I hope we never have to cross that bridge. But since I plan on living until 186, I guess I will make sure it sells high!

I don't care what happens to it all once I am dead.I told my boys Sell the cars cheep to get rid of them, take what you want and call a junk man for the rest.Tons of special tools and car parts .Its all just stuff only valuable to me to build cars, once I am gone it doesn't matter anymore, show is over,LOL.

  6. My wife wondered how she was going to get rid of my stuff if I kick the bucket,I told her to have a one day auction but be sure to announce it on the H.A.M.B. and make sure the buyers take their shit with them.

Well i hope i am way older 39 now and I hope my 12 y/o son wll appreciate all of it I`m quiet sure he will. I wont be here to do anything about it so he will do what he wishes im sure he will do the right thing,I just hope he dont sell my Hot rods to go racing cause i sold my race cars to go hot roding.

    Def something to ponder

  8. My wife knows how much I have invested in my car.She can sell it if she wants since it,s a standard and she couldn't drive it. As for all of my vintage car parts most of it is tagged and she is to let my swap meet vending partner take what he wants......

  9. You make a great point about it going to a club for disposition. That's just another good reason to join or start a club, and maybe one of the best benefits too. I didn't think of it like that till you mentioned it.

My relatives would have little clue as to what a lot of my stuff is worth if I were to depart. But if given to a club to "execute the will" then divvy up the $$$, all involved would come out ahead. Except me. . .

  11. I was going to distribute my stuff between the Raven and another non-hamb friend. But I doubt that they'll be around. I'll be the last man atsnding as usual.

Truth is that once I'm goine I don't really care what happens to my stuff.

  12. Very good question that we all should take seriously. A lot of us have thousands of $$$$$$$$$$ in cars, tools, signs and toys that our kids don't want and our wives have no clue. I for one am trying to educate her so she don't sell it for pennies on the dollar. I do have good friends that would help her sell it but it seems a shame that what has been our life goes to strangers. My tools have been my life and I dread the thought of a stranger paying 10 cents on the dollar for them at a sale, I would love to give them to my son or maybe someday grandson but we have to plan, thats for sure.

Cars and parts are my hobby not my legacy. I plan to have all my shit sold off, the money spent, and let the state bury me!

Seriously look into a living trust. You can spell out pull the plug clauses, etc. It keeps your property out of the courts and says exactly what you want.

The Senior Chief says the Caddy is his inheritance, so he gets that. The rest is just crap anyway taking up space.
I'll just be dust in the wind & won't care.

  22. I was asked to assist along with another person the disposition of a friends personal belongings. Tools, parts, a partially assembled T bucket, couple engines. and misc. items.

His widow/ex wife to be, going through a divorce at the time of his death) tried to give me the T bucket. I declined in favor of the other person as he actually found the car for my friend when it was a total basket case. I felt it meant more to him than to me. There were a couple of things I tried to buy that she would not sell to me.

She refused any money from either of us. I insisted on paying because at least on two of the items I had sold them to him with the understanding that if he ever sold them, I had first right to purchase back. We were friends for almost thirty years, everything between us was by handshake including several vehicle sales over the years.

Her reply was that the items in question were not for sale at any price, and if I wanted them free they were mine. If I would not accept them, they would be sold to someone else. The other person assisting got the same deal on what he wanted.

A friendly word of advice, if you have any "ghosts" around, like photos of old girlfriends, porn collection, etc, you might at least as you get older rethink your mementos. Ex's to be usually do not take too kindly to finding these.......

I wonder if the State would allow a Viking style funeral with my '40 Chevy?

    Nothing, because........ I'll be dead.
I'm not under the illusion I have any control over anything after I'm gone.

I'll leave my car to the asian kid next door...On the condition that he doesn't chop-top the roof like one of those beaners, doesn't paint any idiotic flames on it like some white trash hillbilly, and doesn't put a big, gay spoiler on the rear end like you see on all the other zipperheads' cars. It just looks like hell. If he can refrain from doing any of that... it's his.

It's a running joke that my family is gonna have me & my dog stuffed & buried in my 55. I could deal with that.....

Probably give one of the cars to each of my nephews and neice if I still have them. Car parts and tools donate to my car club let them fight over them.

Right now I'm helping a friend of a friend who's husband passed away last year. He had 14 vehicles and a lifetime of tools we are selling. I't almost like a full time job.
