From September, 1930 Modern Mechanix: What will they think of next? Refrigerated air blowing out of the dash? Scrolling road maps? Flip-down lipstick mirrors? Cars that shift themselves? What else do we take for granted now (besides radios), that would have wowed our forefathers? (If you've been clever enough to add it to your ride, show us pictures.)
Everyting with "power" in the name. Windows, brakes, steering, seats and evererything else! Cars you can start from a distance with your key to warm the engine up, etc.
I'll bet its them crafty little Japanese devils. What is the point of that fender mounted light to indicate a turn. Ain't nobody gonna use sum-thin like that.
The first standard equipment radio in an American production car came in the 1933 Essex-Terraplane 8 DeLuxe model. It was a Majestic 66 radio mounted to the firewall with the tuner head mounted to the steering column. Talk about your trivia.....
I love old original AM car radios, I have a small collection at home. I like to rig up an old computer power supply and listen to them in my room.
