Michael, here is Harry at Tampa in 1973 in George Nesler's car. As you probably know, Harry was a fine, very aggressive driver.

Harry Benjamin was a real stand on the gas take no prisoners racer...man could he go!!!

When the SMRC midget club was formed they took anyone who had a midget and had pretty open rules allowing the 215 Buick's among others and basically was a run what you brung.

What Harry brung was a midget with a Chevy V8.....now we have all heard of stretched midgets running as sprint cars but please take a moment and visualize a midget with a small block. I never saw it run but heard of the shows Harry put on at Flemington which would scare Superman if he was watching.

    Didn't faze Harry one bit.

Harry drove the Vern Osgood (Flyin Bryan's brother) #9 every once in a while. I saw him in it at Selinsgrove and Williams Grove but may have drivin it other places as well.

Looks like it could be. My thanks to all who post on this thread. You guys
are hard to keep up with.:D I have mined this thread for pics and info on
my uncle Wilbur's (Hawthorne) car for a while now. He passed away last
year but not before getting to see some pics of his car from this thread.
Seems to verify my memory that he bought a wrecked Indy car and built
a dirt car. Seems like he spent his whole life doing more with less.

No offense, but I'm having a hard time seeing his car in the pics referenced
in post 9467,but I defer to the knowledge and experts that make this thread so interesting.

Here's a pic with the cage and wing from Al Consoli.

And another from Al posted earlier in this thread.

fuel pump: Vern Osgood's No. 9 looks like a Hillegass; do you know who might have owned it before Osgood?

I have a Kurtis midget chassis that Shorty Jensen supposedly drove years ago. I bought it from a friend of his(who I have not been able to find since ). My notes show him being Elrod "Shorty" Jensen from Kelly Iowa. There should be some people on hear from Des Moines and Ankeny area who may know about him or family. Don't remember him being a photographer but I think he drove a variety of open wheel cars.

    For Buildy and Old Bill,
The # 65 looks like Tom Price, but could be Ben Landis. The #19 is Bert Dodge in the former Ferslew car.
The #9 Osgood car is the Charlie Sacks Offy killer.

    BenMtrsports,
Harry drove for me for 6yrs. in URC. I have nothing but fond memories of those years. Harry and I shared a lot of laughs and tears especially during his final months. If you PM your phone# I will contact you.

Great shots of the "King of Ascot". I remember that November 1985 night when he retired.

    Hi Buildy,
Looking again at the picture, the #8 car does not look familiar, but it looks like the former Martin bros. red ram dodge. Also, the Ruppert #65, I believe is the former Joe Mattera Deerlake Inn Hillegass. Old Bill??

Speaking of restored cars, could anybody restored the 95 car in that crash and claim it as raced?

I don`t see why letting the guys here know you have a copy for sale would be wrong.

Anyone interested could then send you a private message.

Photos are good, post them if you want to.

Hi to all. I finally registered after months of looking at all the great photos and reading all the interesting posts. I am especially interested in URC in the 60's since my dad - Hal Smith drove with URC during that time. After I saw the posts of the restoration of Ted Horn's "Baby", I thought I'd let you know it was my dad who had the "distinction" of flipping the car at Flemington in 1963. To this day I can not figure out how the car landed the way it did - upside down and facing the wrong direction on the inside rail. If anybody has any other photos or info during this time I'd love to see them. Unfortunately, my dad passed away 18 months ago, but it was a time that I will always remember. I have some photos during that time, that I will try to post in the future.

Rich, I'd like to see a thread like that. I've got some old photos. Also, over on TrackForum, in their Nostalgia section they've got a thread for older Indy Car shots.
