Hot Rods My Henry J on the of COVER of a MAGAZINE

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Stewed, Mar 11, 2010.

  1. I grew up traveling all over the U.S. riding in the back of this old car, where there are no seats, going to car shows, to come home and have my dad look through every magazine on the shelf for event coverage to catch a glimpse of a "fender", or a "piece of a fin" of this old car to add it to the collection of magazines with similar pieces of it in them(9 to be exact)! I have the collection in my garage he left me with the car!! Now I have one to put on the TOP of the pile,, and it doesn't have a sticky note on the front explaining what part to look for, and what page to look at!!!

    Check it out!!!!!

    Man, look at that rack
Right next to the popcorn and the battery packs
Am I supposed to be skinny or fat?
    Hmmm?
    Sometimes I get so depressed
Am I supposed to wears pants or a see-through dress
My friends say that I've become obessed
    Hmmm?

I wanna be on the cover of a magazine
I wanna be on the cover of a magazine
Hair piled high, tons of diamonds
It all looks good to me

How come it's such a big deal
It's about how you look and not how you feel
All I know is I wanna wear those heels
    Yeah
    Every day, everywhere you look
For $2.99 you get to sink your hooks
In the lives of heroes, in the lives of crooks
    It's all good

I wanna be on the cover of a magazine

I just read the article a few days ago and though, what a cool story to still have the same car in the family, congrats!!

  10. Thanks. Fifty years of beating and banging on it in the garage, on the street, and at the track. I would have liked to seen HALF the shit this old car has seen in its life time. I don't care that it made the magazine for my sake, hell I didn't build it, but the old man would have a BIG smile right now! Besides, anyone who knows the car, knows it is NO TRAILER QUEEN or million dollar show piece, and anyone who knows the way I drive it knows it is a true old race car!!!!!!!! It is just a kool old hunk of iron out of history that resides in my garage(and eats my money every time I get crazy)!!!

  11. Very cool! Congrats!

Congratulations, and it just happens to be one of the best magazines ever!! Sounds to me like it couldn't have happened to a better man. Just one question, do you still have every issue of Hot Rod? Best wishes from Western Illinois...Bryan & Sarah

  18. Thinking of Joplin and Weekender helping with the pig feed at the first HAMB drags. Two HenryJ guys that are looking down from Heaven at us now. They were both heros of mine since I startede building a HenryJ in Highschool that I never got on the road. Joplin brought the wood we smoked that pig with, Tommy brought the Watermelon. I miss em both....................

The closest my HenryJ ever got to that was a 3"x3" photo in Rod and Custom. Great to see some recognition for a car thats burned more than its share of rubber!

Any chance you can get a poster-sized print of the cover to display in a better place than just "the top of the pile"?

  28. Awesome man. Great article and a great car. Haven't seen you since Dixie Fried we need to hit the Hot Rod Reunion this year.

  29. I got one that you probably don't have. I ment to give it to your dad and let time slip away from me. So you'll get it at the HAMB drags this year. Remind me please.

Oh by the way cool beans friend.

Your dad was good folks by the way. I hope to see him again on the other side.
