Marvelous tail light trick.... I've often wonder when/if you will mention painting it. Yes a nice ole green or maroon w/ bracket type stuff black. i'm on the fence about not though. also ponder lusting about owning it. great rpu.

Just one more reason to love that RPU, pick the shade of green carefully.

Thanks everyone...I was hoping some would find this usefull.

...and I think I have picked the green carefully. I matched an old lacquer job on my bosses 28 RPU. It's possibly Rock Moss Green...but who knows at this point, I just liked the color.

I've painted the engine and wheels with the color already...

  6. Hey Neal, where's the thread with the color shots of the engine?

I am continually amazed by your inginuity. so simple and so plausibly original--something I strive for. keep em coming.

I then made up a license plate mount welded to a piece of 2" tubing that would slide into the receiver and hide it all...

Really like it but how can you use the tow bar without removing the plate holder?
    Bill.

  12. You don't need to see the plate when you are towing a trailer.

No, but the license plate just slides out...

And then slide in the hitch...

...plus I don't really see me pulling a trailer on the highway with this car...probably just towing a racecar at the track.

It's an old aluminum casting that I picked up at a swapmeet...

...and it fit the carb spacing of the slingshot perfectly. I just took the chrome bonnets off and put this lid on, using the same bases and elements.

I must have had this in my mind, as i just fabbed up a smaller version of your plate mount to be a saddle mount for the motor mounts on my 54. I didnt realize until just now how similar they are in appearance, until i took a last look at this thread. Only difference (other than size) is that i have a sharper corner at the edges, where yours looks more rounded than mine. How did you go about that? bead roller? brake with a rounded edge? mine was made from two pieces of stock welded at a 90* angle.
