Here is a picture of mine. Year of Manufacture. A cop in Nevada pulled me over because he thought they were fake! [IMG]

  8. Here's a couple that aren't really vintage;hell they aren't even real.Just some scrap aluminum I had laying around and decided to paint to look like plates. The first I did for my youngest son complete with the dreaded fake(painted on;not a decal)bullethole! The second I have on the front of my Safari.

In 1956 my father received his new 56 plate in the mail in a brown envelope. He slid the perfect clean 1955 plate into the envelope and continued this practice until 1974 when the State stopped sending new plates each year and began using stickers. Beginning in 1963 he kept consecutive license plates when my mom got a car. I got my 47 Merc in 67 and then my sister got a car and my brother got my grandfathers 54 Ford, so some years I have 4 consecutive numbers. He kept all these in a box, in order. I have all the plates, the 54 Ford and the 47 Merc. I have another very large collection of old plates that I had on the wall, but they are in a box while I build a new wall.

You didn't say they had to be legal.

  13. Speaking of license plates.. any AZ HAMBers have a black and white 56 issue plate to spare? My 57 was sold new in Dec of '56 in Tucson and I thought it would be cool to have an original plate (a Dec.'57 exp.sticker would be icing on the cake!)
Ditto for NM guys, my 59 was sold new in Clovis(I think). In IL you can run a vintage plate on a "antique" registered car as long as you carry your reg. and AV plates with you.

I've got AV plates so I have a matched pair of IL '36 plates I'm going to run. But at Pomona I got an almost matching pair of CA '36 plates for $40 that I may run occaisionally. They both start with 8P. A matching set was $160!

Hey guys I'm looking for a 1968 Missouri plate for my Charger. They are odd and not that easy to find. It was a single plate issue ( Mo requires 2 plates ) and was green with white lettering instead of the normal red with white.

Petejoe, I don't know it's a 15$ flea market item. Cast aluminun combination tag light and stop signal. I'm thinking 1920's

Klazurfer, who says you have to live there? I've run the fake 32sptcp tags for years. (the legal ones are in the trunk)

I'm not supposed to be running this tag on my Model A-
(Year of Manufactuer or New plates only)
I built it 53 style, I wanna run a 53 tag, whats the problem?

Definitely some cool ones. Hey question, what years did they (in California) use the big yellow plate with black lettering ?

I was wondering if you were allowed to do this. Titled it by the engine numbers or something? My other thought was to use my Mom's old crusty '54 plate on the front and a standard blue and white tag on the back (Michigan no longer requires a front plate) so it looked fifties from the front at least.

1940 California plates are the long style yellow with black letters/number

1956-1961 are shorter, 5" by 12" yellow with black letters
