Edelbrock intake ID

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vtwhead, Mar 4, 2010.

  1. I have just picked up a nice MLP6 Edelbrock. It is from the 50's or 60's and is set up for 3 bolt carbs. It was to fit a early Pontiac V8 but others say it may be a Mercury/Lincoln. Anyone have an old catalog that will verify what this fits?

How about posting a pic of the intake and we'll let you know what it's for.

  3. My understanding is that edelbrock MLP6 is a 6x2 log intake for Lincoln, Edsel & Mercury engines. 1958-66 383, 410, 430, 462 Mel series engines. I could be wrong, if you can post a pic or 2 that will help with id.

  4. Shot some pics of the MLP6 for definition. Hope this helps with the ID.

  6. The MEL 6x2 is labeled as LM6. The port configuration of a MEL is completely different...has four spaced ports. :)

No further along as to what it is, but at least ya know one thing it isn't. Looking at the flanges, it does look like early 1st gen Pontiac with that bolt pattern & port spacing.

Yes, the bolt pattern does look like pre-1965 Pontiac. Know anyone into early Pontiacs? Steal an intake gasket from them and lay it on the manifold and see what lines up.

It's the early Pontiac intake manifold! Believe it or not, Monogram copied that intake for the 1/8 scale BIG DEUCE model kit that came out in 1963.. :) That puppy is worth some bucks!! I'd keep it!!! :)

  10. Well it is what it is. So 64 and earlier Ponchos. I don't know squat about the Pontiacs! Would that include the 421 or did the 421 come out after 64? i don't know anyone in my area that is into Pontiacs so I will have to do some digging and learn more about these engines. Thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate the help.

    They should fit the 421... And also the 389. :) Here's a few pics of a '62 or '63 SD 421 Catalina..

I just noticed that with your intake, you would need the coolant crossover manifold which attached to the front of the heads.

  13. HMMM! I wonder how rare they are assuming that it would be a Edelbrock piece. Suppose you could fab up one. Anyone got any pics of one hanging around for reference?

Check this link out: www.pontiacsafari.com/L1Garage/EngineID/index.html And also get a hold of someone at Edelbrock and tell them what you have... They might be able to help you out. I believe that intake came out in?? Late fifties early sisxties to bolt on the 1957-1962 347, 370, 389 and the non SD 421 cylinder heads. Good luck! :)

Call Edelbrock and they will tell you exactly what it is and what you will need to do to make it work.... I did this before with a SBC manifold I have for 3 bolt carbs.
