Found a collection of pics from the lakes in somebodies TRASH! On the back of the photos of the car at speed it says Sept. 17th 1939 129 MPH Dry Lakes Calif. V8 Modified. I have negatives too. Cars, bikes, customs, trains, airplanes. When I have some time here in the next day or so I'll scan them and put them here or somewhere. Lots of pics not just from the lakes but truck crash pics, car crash pics, movie set pics 50's nudie girls. A nude water color of Marilyn Monroe painted by Travilla who I guess was her designer back in the day. Tons of killer vintage stuff, maybe you guys can ID some of the pics. Did I mention car pics?

The first car looks like the Ritchie Richards car from the Sidewinders club of Glendale.

Most of the pics are in Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. One of the wreck pics is dated 1955 Saugus, Hwy. 99 S Bound 10:33 AM.

This is fun, guy must have been an Air Force man. Check the aircraft gauges in his dash. Pics of flak damaged planes, Navy ships, on and on. Classic cars, coach built stuff, customs, hot rods. The Goodyear blimp with radial engines! Great background stuff too. I'm scanning as big as I can so you can click on them and blow em up for details. Guy must have been connected in Hollywood by the pics of the day, Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe etc. Countless shop and garage pics of what must be a coach built shop based on the classics in the garage. Check back later, I have to work for a while!

Post what you want more pics of and I'll do it, I know some of it's OT but this is a look at where traditional hot rodding started.

    WOW.. what a find...

One car (you have two photos of it) is a 1941 Ford turned Roadster.
I think those are Strother MacMinn photos since they appear to be taken at the same location/time as once I know. The car is owned by a guy named Turner... no further info is known about this car. But one photo of it appeared in the New TRJ coproduction book Hot Rods and Custom Cars

These two photos appeared in the Dan Post Blue Book from 1949-52

You're in Chatsworth, I'm in Winnetka and Jim Miller, American Hot Rod Foundation, is in Burbank.

Jim gets collections like these on a regular basis. He can id a lot of stuff and will make you a cd of the images. PM me for phone number.

I like the Ford Tri-motor and the one to the left of it looks like it might be the replica of the Spirit Of St. Louis they filmed a lot of that movie at Santa Mariam airport in '55-'56.

  20. Simply fantastic, these must be Strother MacMinn!
    This is pure gold.

I found paperwork in the name of D. Morrison on Fairfax in Hollywood, references to a Bill Smith, Marilyn Monroe, Morrison Engineering Company. There are what looks like studio set pics of all kinds of things so who knows what this history is of these pics. One thing is for sure, they are original, many hand written notes on the backs and negatives stapled to many of them. This guy got around.

The close up of the engine and cowl of the black car is the same car as the car "at speed". See the fins on the cowl match the fins on the white car.
