Project: "Crazy Diamond" Chevy 54

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chev55, Feb 28, 2010.

  1. This will be a thread about my youngest brother Erik´s Chevrolet 1954

I lost my brother in a car accident in April -09. Just days before his 21th birthday
He was on his way home from the garage were he was workin on his Chevy, when he lost brakes on his volvo just when he came to an intersection.

    Erik and his 66 Volvo

Erik had big plans for the 54 and on top of the list was to bag it and modify it to lay frame!!

Eriks death has been hard for the family and his friends.
To handle the sadness and grief I came up with the idea that we all together should build Eriks 54 just like he wanted it to be!
We have done quite a bit, but much is left to do. So far it have been a great way for us to slowly get back to the reality and life!

On Eriks funeral our dad decided to play a song by Pink Floyd - Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
And we named the 54 project after this song!

This is what it looked like when Erik bought it (this car have been in family since 1960 an was a daily driver to early 90s)

Erik fixed the rust on the car good enough to pass inspection (was quite a lot of rust)

And the last thing he did was sandblast the wheels and put primer on them. (then he went home to eat while the primer dried but he never came back)

A couple of weeks later we painted his wheels and put on his new WW tires!

    to be continued.....

  2. Then we tried to take it trough safety inspection and there were no bigger issues..

After that something came in the mail..

We put som shine on that crazy diamond!

We also lowered the car with blocks in rear and cut coils in front!
And the car got the Diamond logo!

  6. And then nothing big happened until Dec 09

    Frame sandblasted
    [IMG]

And we really didn´t now how to make the car lay frame at this point, but it seemed like good start to lay the frame on the floor and start from there.

Time to cut up the frontend to make room for airbags!

Playing with the mans best friend (yes its not the dog anymore, it´s the plasmacutter)

Kind of different way to bag a 54 chevy, but it worked out at the end.

And then that someone welded it together again..
