Some of you have asked if we were still working on our 16 valve Volvo headed Ford 2.3 four cylinder. Yes. We're about to start dyno testing. This version should be in the 500/600 HP range. The other version should dial in around 700/800 HP . Bigger blower more boost.
    Almost there

So what's on the menu for fuel and ignition control?

Our own computer. The engine runs on gasoline when not in boost. When in boost it goes to methanol and gasoline. Hence the 2 fuel rails.

If you Google Volvo head on Pinto motor you'll get several sites that have done the mod. (With varied results). Most I've seen are normally aspirated where there's not near that much gain. And, NONE of them look as good as this one!!

How about a U-tube on the dyno?

Why long tube to throttle body instead of just mounting it directly to blower facing out? And what's the car it's in? Why MP122 instead of high helix MP1900?

why the super tight turn on the intake manifold runner right in front of the head? seems like you'd get a nasty turbulent area right next to the injectors. And why didn't you mount the throttle body directly on the blower? Is this for bonneville or drag racing? or something else?
I don't want to sound like a jackass I just really want to know.

That's pretty sweet. I used to race a little Merkur XR4Ti and one of the guys on the message board had done this swap to his Merk....that car made crazy turbo power.

The tube to the throttle body was neccesary to keep the throttle body inside the fenderwell. The car is a'60 Cortina sedan delivery. The higher HP version does use a High Helix 1900, 4 blades per rotar and 160 degree helix. The next version will be a 2300.

This is engine is for a specifc body. The higher HP version makes no concessions to ease of installation installation. The usage is street. In high boost situations (20 plus Lbs.) turbulence is not much of an issue. Please excuse the poor quality of this pic. We had planned on showing it. This is an early mockup of the higher HP version. This one is set for 30 lbs. boost.

I've been wanting to do this, but had trouble finding a B234F head. Any other heads work?

That looks like it needs to be in a lakester or size appropriate streamliner blasting across the salt.

that looks quite a bit better

here is an article you might want to read:
    http://www.theoldone.com/articles/The_Soft_Head_1999/
It covers a lot of combustion chamber theory, runner design, the web site also has a lot of good information on improving blower efficiency

this drawing is a good example of keeping the runner floor and roof equal length to prevent "shearing" of the air column.

for a street motor it might not be of major concern but it may be something you want to look into as is can prevent fuel puddling and detonation. every little bit helps.

There will be no fuel puddling because the fuel is injected directly into the ports, alcohol and gasoline. The detonation is handled by multiple knock sensors and the presence of the alcohol. GeminiEFI

Long wait but here's the reason this example is not PERFECT for the techies. It has to fit in a 1959 Thames panel! If the throttle body was mounted on the blower it would take out the left front wheel.

Aside from the engine angle and other considerations, Anyone could do that!

  27. So where are you as now with this? I am considering this in the near future, but N/A with EFI individual runner and finding someone to grind cams
