Just picked up a roller, 52 Plymouth Cranbrook 2dr. Want to make a low buck custom out of her. What kind of straight six/tranny would you put in? I am looking for ease/least modification, affordablility and ease of finding cheap parts. I am not against putting in something newer from GM with some old style dress up parts. Don't want to mess with the front clip but torching sheet metal, new mounts is not a problem. Hard work is free when you are doing it yourself, right?
keep it mopar, stick a slant 6 and a 904 in her. done it to a 54, but that might be a little bit more room. ahhh she'll fit!
Easiest: 225 slant Original: 230 L6 flathead, up to 1959 Traditional hot-rod: 251 or 265 Chrysler/DeSoto L6 flathead Period swap: Dodge 241, 270; DeSoto 276, 291
He has plenty of room in there. Has that weird steering thing going on so it would be tough to jam in a V8. A straight 6 would be cool......Besides, if it is too much power, he may hurt himself.
I like family engines, inlines, also interesting V8's. [I keep looking at my 330 Desoto hemi, or 401 nailhead for my 261 powered 39chevy].If you want V8 power, and a 6, get the Aussie Mopar semi hemi straight 6, amaze your friends. The Chrysler flathead 6 [Which is also a mopar truck engine.] would be my first pick. Then there are other inlines, The GMC,s. AMC/Jeep, Chevy, 235/261,s and the Chevy 1963 up. So there you are several good choices take your pick, jus my ideas.
