SBC motor mounts

I know I know.... I've tryied the search as many different ways as I could think of and can't find what I'm looking for. All I am doing is trying to come up with some cool ideas for motor mounts for my small block chevy in my Model A. The motor is out in the open so everyone can see it so I thought the mounts should look cool, yet not too funky or clunky. Everything I have come up with looks like crap, so lets see em!!!! I KNOW I am not the only one with a sbc in an old rod!!!!! Ya I know, small blocks are done to death.

 

I've always been partial to SIMPLE.

 

Go with a set of biscuits bolted to the front mount bosses.
Bunches of them out there.

 

Hurst mount and biscuits.

 

Ya, I was thinking of a hurst or hurst style front mount but I just don't have the room. So I need to go with some sort of side mounts. I know I'm being kinda picky but the look I would like is to make a mount that looks like a factory part, if a small block happend to come standard in a model A. If that makes any sence????

 

Simple, strong easy to make and easy to install
Uses a factory style rubber SBC motor mount for a mid 60's Chevrolet
... so replacements are easy to find and very easy to install when and IF you ever need to.

I saw this on a T bucket but it would be easy to build something similar and possibly a bit cleaner.




If you are going to run a rear transmission mount you do not want a Hurst style mount on the front of the engine. That setup can allow the engine and trans to flex at the bellhousing causing front seal failure in automatics. It works great with a setup with the rear mounts on the bellhousing though.

 

KennysRodandKustom on ebay has a bunch for about 75 bucks. Got them for our roadster, and was please with the look and fit.

Here is a photo of a pickup truck's motor mounts that I saw at the Swap Meet @ Springfield, MO last August, the day before the HAMB Drags @ MoKan. I photographed it for future reference... A bit unusual as it was set up to allow steering shaft through and probably also gave the frame some additional strength, by tying the rails together... Anyway, just a thought...duane

UH, that would be a factory 58-64 style V8 motor mount, wouldn't it?
Factory part in a factory car. What's simpler? Last long as your life, cheap, and available at every parts store in the US.

Hey! Thanks for the pics guys!!! I tryied an idea I had after looking at some of these, I'm not quite done but i'm not too sure if it's what Im after, but whats the worst that could happen? it turns out loke crap and I have to start over again? Good thing I like making stuff!!!

I'm using the Vern Tardell ones that mount on the front of the block and use the stock Ford biscuits.

 

Question about those biscuts, I know speedway sels them, but I deal with NAPA alot, and was wondering if there is an application (year make model)that I could ask for, or is it a speedway thing?

Hey gus, ask the counterman to look up Ford mounts from 1940 - 1948. They will have them, but I think you will find the price a bit steep in comparison to the early Ford aftermarket. might be better than waiting for mail order though...

 

what about a bushing from a big rig they seam o be the samish......

 

I like Moroso metal mounts. They are neat and strong OR modify them and add a rubber bushing if you have unwanted vibrations.
