Yes they are close together, that was the plan, as I explained. The close mounting of the shock does not change over all travel of the axle/shock when the axle travels an even amount on both sides and both wheels go up or down at the same time, in this case 8" inches. But when the axle articulates on one side only as when driving up a curb at an angle or driving through a pot hole with only one wheel and the axle pivots on it's center line, then the amount of travel at the shock is reduced when compared to the travel at the end of the axle where the wheel is.
As an example, it you were to mount only one shock at the center of the axle and then moved the axle an even amount up or down on both sides then the shock would travel the same amount. But if you pivoted the axle around it's center, moved one side up and the other down an equal amount then the shock would not travel at all. Think teeter-totter.
Do you really need me to explain the roll of a shock to you? Seriously?

    thats gonna be neat!!

  6. I think maybe he didn't mean roll in the sense of what does a shock do (it's role) but how much it varies from it's vertical position (like body roll) as the axle articulates given that it is mounted with a stud at the top and not an eye which would allow for more movement side to side in its vertical plane. If that makes any sense at all.:D

Too bad you couldn't join us to Sac Autorama to make it 3 LaSalles together. I think that would be the first time. The red one is the '37 that Johnny built last year.

Hey what up Bob. I am going to cruz it around this summer and make a decision then. I agree, it doesn't need it so if I chop it it will be a mild chop, just to enhance the look.

Yeah, just a mild chop 2" or 2 1/2 inches, doesn't need more than that. Just enough to make it flow better. It was originally design with a lower roof line, but the big bosses a GM though it didn't offer enough head room for customers that were taller or wanted to wear a hat while driving.

    Thanks again for the comments.
Johnny and I DROVE both LaSalles to Sacramento Autorama from San Jose (2hrs) on Thursday and set-up in the Suede Area. Both cars ran great, show looks great. I will be back on Saturday.

    See everyone there....
