Can someone, who has a '55 Chevy 1/2 ton, share with me what kind of rearend (housing) will swap out with my stock one. Apparently they don't make ring and pinions higher than a 370 for these trucks and i want to run about a 308.

My stock "chunk" is wore out anyway. A ford 9" is about 3 inches wider and a 12 bolt Chevy truck one looks about the same as the Ford on the width..........any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope I posted this ??? in the right place, if not someone let me know where I need to go.

    thanks,

    Cochise

Gen 2 camaro is practically the same width, just change over the spring perch and away you go. Pretty standard swap, stick it on top of the leaf springs and you have dropped the back end by 3-4".

NIce build guys. Man I love these trucks, cool body style. IMO, although you didn't ask. I love the subtle color on the truck now, bright yello is great for fire trucks and school buses, but prefer more tame color for rods and customs. My last 56 Plymouth came out to bright yellow and I never could get to like it. Thanx for sharing the build, good luck wit the thrash for the event. ~sololobo~

    Thank you for that info.

Someone told me that mid '60's Galaxie would work as well as a late '60's F-100.......so i have three things I can look for now........................again thanks.

I too wanted my '55 to look like a gasser, but after dropping it in the front 2 " and putting air shocks on the rear, with that '70's look.........I kind of like it.............but I truly dig the gasser look, even on the little '64 Falcon running around our town!!!!
