Alright SO, my neighbor has a 1953 Chevy Biscayne 2 Dr Hardtop that has 86,000 original miles that has been in his family for a long time. Runs and drives, and its a pretty cool car! He's thinking about selling it but before he does he's wanting to get some info on these particular cars. Im talkin about anything from the simple starting the car, to the most technical thing about them. ANY info is GREATLY appericiated! Thanks!
I don't want to rain on your parade but I think what your looking at is actually a "bel aire". As far as I know Chevy didn't use Biscayne until 1958. Should be a straight six, might have a cast iron powerglide. If it's a good car with little or no rust, get it! It does have the distinction of being one of the easiest cars to hop up ever, and damn, they are pretty!
He said its the model right below the Bel Air, so wouldnt that be the 210 model? (if my research says right). Yea its got the bullet proof straight 6, says it fires right up and sounds like a soweing machine lol. I didnt see any rust on the outside, i havent looked underneith yet. its got the chromed out Moonlight wheels with the pancake hub caps, bias-ply tires, etc. says its got a slight break leak somewhere but hes not sure where its at. When it starts to warm up hes going to hand it over to me, and ill clean it up and advertise it and everything to sell it for him. Ill get some pics of it tonight after i get off work and see what you guys think
If it is indeed a 2 door hardtop(no "B" pillar)it is a pretty rare model. They made a lot more Bel Air hardtops than 210 hardtops.I would check into a Chevrolet group and find out production figures.
heres some snap shots i got, and its actually a 1954 (my bad!!!) http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy001.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy002.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy003.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy004.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy005.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy006.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy007.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s284/Trav_450R/1954Chevy008.jpg been garaged all but 2 years of its life
Well she's not a Hard Top. Nor a Bel Air. Must be a 210 with all it's trim removed? I think she needs to find a good home. Looks pretty solid and desirable to me! Maybe you should pick her up. Dom
thanks guys, if i was older, out of high school, and through with college, yea i wouldnt mind having it. My neighbor doesnt do anything with it and he would rather sell it and let someone else enjoy it, im just still researching about these to see what kinda of price we can start out with. Also gives me an excuse to goof off in class lol
my guess is a 150 post but they had the small rear window in 53 actually they are getting pretty popular , and it looks to be in nice condition that is a outstanding interior, I had one in 1963 and it did not even have that nice of interior mein then was a 210, been soaking it in a river now for 30 years seems to have disolved , they are a nice car but the driveline and stering and brakes were not much to be desired INMHO
yea thats what amazed me when i first looked inside is how great shape the interior is. he mentioned its got a minior brake leak somewhere but he hasnt checked it out, would you know anything about that? a place to start?
From the rubber windshield gasket, rear window gasket and gravel guard, and the total lack of stainless trim, I think it's a 150.
ah! so the black plastic piece in front of the rear wheels is the gravel guard? and the 150 was the only one with rubber windshield and rear window seals? what about interior differences? i hardly know anything about these cars, just trying to get alot of info before i help him sell it
Damn, I thought that gravel shield was stainless! I think I better stop using that Harbor Freight welding helmet! Definitely a 150.
im pretty anxious for the weather to warm up so i can start getting this car ready, looks pretty fun! what powerplant wouldv'e most likely came on the 150 the 216 or 235?
yep, one of my favotites if it's for sale , i sure wish i had more money than i actually do. story of my life, day late, dollar short, oh well. somebody is gonna get a good lookin car.
Yes, a model 150. The interior is a custom roll and pleat re-do -- nowhere near original. Very nice though. All in all, a nice vehicle. Isn't that dobber nest on top of the oil fill cap? I see it has an alternator - has it been changed from 6 to 12 volts electrical system?
haha thanks guys, i appericate all the info, especially from the ones who have had and still have one. i cant wait to get started on it. idk about the interior being redone, but yea it has been switched over to 12 volts i found this last night http://www.1953chevrolet.com/1953_Chevrolet_Priceguide.htm look up 150 Special, 2dr sedan, row 3... what do you think?
