What do you think about a 1949 Hudson Commodore?

Found a 4 door '49 Hudson Commodore. Looks cool almost like it has a chop top. 6 cyl 3 speed. Would make a cool cruiser. What do you think? tnrotter

 

Lots of Hudson love on here... does it still have the big six? Got pics? Check for rust in the rear wheel wells.

Yeah, Hudsons are way cool.

The car in question looks pretty good in in the pics. I'd want to take a good look at his "floorboard repairs" before I bought it.

Price seem well worth it.

BTW, if ya didn't get the subtle point I was tryin' to make, best to keep things under your hat with this group of vultures.
It took me less than 3 minutes to locate the car, and I coulda slam-dunked the hell out of you!

Yeah, long as it's not rusted to shit, $1,000 is a steal for that car.

On a side note It's kind of amazing that there's a 50 two-door (possibly a Hornet) for sale right there too.

Here's my 49.

 

There was no '50 Hornet built; that coupe is a Super Six, as stated in the ad. Two grand is a hell of a deal for that one, too!

 

I took my driver's test in '62 in my dad's '49 Commodore (two door). (Backing up was a bit of a challenge & I smacked the guardrail..of well.) Anyway, it was his beater/work car & you couldn't hurt it. It was very reliable & darn fast, considering the weight. He paid some guy $15 to paint it blue & the guy painted it green. I guess that's what you get for $15. I can still smell that interior & feel those cloth seats top this day.

What do you think about a 1949 Hudson Commodore?

I think about riding around on a snowy night in high school in the back pass seat and lobbing a snow ball over the roof as we approached a stop sign at the car coming toward us. It turned out to be a cop car and I hit the spotlight perfectly. splattering the side window and windshield. He was not pleased. That's what I think about when I see a 49 Hudson.

 

Hudson's are awesome they looked custom right from the factory

 

TNTROTTER...believe it or not. HUDSON'S are great cars. and that streight 6 has 300 cubes. the only set back is finding parts, but maby some of our H.A.M.B. brothers have a connection. i use that term, because those parts are as costly as drugs! HA!...POP.

 

Thanks for the input. The fact that it is near running and mostly complete weighs alot in my interest in it. And the fact I sold one of my rides Saturday and got money burning a hole in my pocket. As far as anyone else finding it, it's open game. Also, I live in a little Tennessee town with a lot of Hudson families. tnrotter

Stock car racer MARSHALL TEAGUE loved them, & won many races back in the early 1950's!!-------In case you younger guys didn't know.

 

Commodore was Hudson's top of the line trim package. The pics show
taillights and trunk handle that are most likely from a Super Six.
Commodore also came with a chrome steering column,not that it really
makes much of a difference for that price.Nice!

 

I love my 49 Sedan. As long as the rear quarters arent rusted out I would grab it.

 

My '50 Hudson Super was one of the best-riding and comfortable cars I ever owned. I think the Commodore WAS the top-of-the-line model, followed by the Super, and the base model Pacemaker, if my memory serves. They were ALL way cool because the step-down unibody design enabled them to be so LOW, both in reality and in streamlined design. I'm a fender-skirt freak, I'll admit! I always felt Hudsons looked better, even STOCK, than the Mercs. The Hornet 308 with Twin-H carbs came along for '51. A number of NASCAR drivers raced Hudsons, including Teague (as mentioned), and Herb Thomas and Tim Flock both won series championships -- even though there was plenty of V-8 competition. Hudson sold a record nearly quarter-million cars for '48 and '49, BUT they are scarce today. If you buy that Commodore, I think you'll be pleased -- AND noticed!

 

Hudsons are too cool and the history is badd ass....
