55's are my favorite. When I was looking to find one I couldn't find on I liked.I did find a nice 56 though, that was in 1995.I still have it and grown attached to it.It's the longest I ever owned any car.Never did get my 55.
I vote 56 also but I am a little biased. I saw this car a few years ago at a car show and it is why I sold my car that I had at the time and find a 56 Chevy to build.
This is a decision you should take some time researching, a lot of time, the more time the better, the more research the better. Be sure and document everything about each of them. Then, and only then, should you make the final decision; and pick the one with the biggest boobs. Butch/56sedandelivery.
ive had quite a few of both, and have one of each now. i personally like the 56 better as a gasser, but the 55 as a standard height driver. basically though, as you say you prefer the 55, that's what you gotta buy, or be sorry latter. skull
I would do the '56 simply because I've never had one. My heart is with the '55 but after a half dozen it's time to try something a little different. Frank
I think the 56 is really underrated, they're beautiful cars. But if 55 is your favorite go for that, you'll probably be happier in the long run.
my 55 is a hi-boy street racer,my 56 is more modern ,lowered, wilwood brakes, tube a-arms,coilover shocks,i like them both to me a 55 is the old school cult race car
Actually, that is the one I was looking at. He does not want to budge on price so I told him I'll look some more. Maybe I'll look at the 56 tomorrow.
buy both and give me the 56.i use to dislike the 56,but lately i 've changed my mine because you dont see as many as the 55.get the one you want and you wont regret it
I love the stance of this '56. How do you get them up this high without a straight axle? I picked up the '56 I was looking at this Saturday after finally selling my '38...twice. Lots of parts and pieces to figure out since all the dash pieces were taken out and the car came with some extra parts off of what I think is a '55 & '57 and some misc. It even came with an old blue metal flake wheel that had a ton of over spray on it. Cleaned up real nice. It also came with about 15 wing windows. I'm thinking black/white for colors instead of the black(satin)/black(gloss). Any suggestions on where to get parts...Danchuck, etc? I will need wiring, interior screw set, windshield and rear quarter window, locks/keys, motor and trans mounts. Will be putting in the 327 and Super T-10 that came with it.
Congrats! As much as I like the HAMB, you will find a TON of info at chevytalk.com. Go register and spend some time on the 55-57 modified forum. It is the very best source of info for parts and specific issues and there are a great group of people there. The site was invaluable when I was final assembling my car.
This has alwas been my thought i owned a 56 loved the tail lights and the bitchen fuel cap access, but thought the grill looked a little cluttered, I think modifying a 55 front clip to fit a 56 hard top would be the ultimate(of corse ditch the front bumper, straight axle and a whole bunch of motor!!)
You will love the 56.I always wanted a 55 but my first one was a 57 so I traded it for a 55.Wasn't satisfied so I sold it.Now I have a 56 and like it the best. Try Ralph Roberts for parts.I bought a lot of stuff from him.He had the best prices and sold Danchuck parts cheaper than I could get them from the dealer. You can find him online if you Google the name.
you answered your own question.you really want a 55 . you are better off spending the extra cash on something you really want verses the next best thing . you will always want the 55 , so you will never be totally happy with the 56 . be happy get the 55
Blonde, brunette, or redhead? '55,'57, or '56? I have had both 55's and 56's. Only thing I ever disliked about having a '56 was the average jerk would ask if it was a '55 or '57?. Anybody who has owned a '56 knows what I am talking about..the same guy, when corrected, would respond with I bet you wish it was a '57 or '55 . To make matters worse this guy is the type who called my mother's 57 4 door wagon a Nomad! There is one in every crowd!
