Hemi Coupe Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Taildraggin, Jan 6, 2010.

  1. Back in 2007 we had no intention to buy another project, but the wife was let loose on ebay and bought this stock Model A Coupe

Before we new it we had a container full of stuff heading over to England.
It arrived back in Spring 2008.

Here she is on English soil for the first time

The car was made roadworthy and got an MOT and then registered.
We used it as stock for a few months but the old girl kept breaking down. So the decision was made to to stop fixing her and strip her down ready for the rebuild.
All the running gear was sold on to help finance the build.

  2. The body was covered up and stored away untill I had time to start on it.

A few weeks ago we started on the old girl and brought her into the workshop.

The plan is to have it mounted on 32 rails with a 330 Desoto Hemi.

    Here she is mocked up.

  3. Body now all striped down

  4. Started tacking up the chassis rails

  5. Body mocked up on the chassis to check fit. Still have to tweek the rails abit to get a nice fit.

  6. Started on the boxing plates today

Cut out the plates with the plasma cutter

    Then flared the holes

    Tacked in place

  7. Nice, model A highboy on duece rails, classic! What else is planned, a haircut?

That's the exact same project as mine, with a 330 as well. I'm at the same point as you are, good luck. Looks good so far, especially the flared boxing plates!

  9. Its going to get a 4" chop as soon as the body is mounted on the chassis

what kind of adjustment went into the rails to get them to fit better under the body? I have a 31 and a 32 frame i'm going to start on this spring/summer.

  15. I just shaped them to fit the body shape better
I pinched them about 3/4" at the cowl

    Hi Kelvin

I see you've taken the plunge! Good luck. Mines back from Steve's in a couple of weeks, I'll send you some pics.

Next time I bump into you I need to ask you a couple of questions about the inlets.

  24. Look forward to seeing it
How far has it come along

  25. Finally started working on the coupe again.

Got the front end mocked up and the body and engine sat in place.
Just got to make up the mounts and crossmember now.

WOW. Nice coupe. I wish a could turn my wife loose on ebay like you did, but after 33 years with her i know that is not going to happen. That HEMI is going to look so COOL in there. Good luck with the build, and keep us posted. PINCHER
