RIP KS PITTMAN To many drag racing greats have passed away in recent years but you know there's got to be some great drag racing going on in Heaven.
That is sad news. One of my childhood favorites. In recent years, I crewed on a team with John Edwards' niece (John was KS's crew chief and engine builder), which made me feel somewhat connected to KS, through her great stories about him. The Gasser Wars will always be my favorite drag race era and now we've lost another of the greats. Let's savor the ones we have left... Scotty
Thank You all so much for your kind words. KS was a kind man and always had time for his fans, KS will be missed. I'm jsut sorry I didnt get a chance to see him before he passed away BTW KS is my uncle.
I remember him from the Pittman & Edwards full-bodies Olds gasser..a genuine legend, he did it all in the gasser ranks.
To everyone who has posted on this thread thank you very much. I will be forwarding it to the S&S race team who he raced with for many years and he meant alot to each and everyone of them. It is a very sad day. Gasser Girl
Met K.S. once in the 60's. Like everyone says,he was a real nice guy. The first time you met him it was like he had known you for years. I always wondered later what the K.S. stood for.
I had the good fortune of visiting with KS on several occasions. He was my idol as a drag racer when I was a kid. I have a picture of me and him going through his scrap books, reliving his past and listening to his stories. He was a wonderful person to visit with. I have the die cast model of his race car. RIP Later, Dick
watched him at Femont Drag strip gassers they are still my part of racing memories never met him but was by and herd hil talk to fans Gods Grace
K.S. Pitman was 82 years old, born July 7, 1927. I had the good fortune to celebrate my 50th birthday with K.S. who was celebrating his 60th, and also with Chet, the former starter at Fremont, Ca. dragstrip at a banquet hosted by the Inliners International in Auburn, Wa where K.S. was appearing with his 41 Willys gassser at a NDRA nostalgia drag racing event. I spent many years as a racer & tech inpector and had seen K.S. on many occasions in California in the 60's and more recently at old time drag racing events in the 80's and 90's. He was always a high class guy who loved what he was doing. God Speed! Terry "Long Live Hot Rods" Tom Senter in a letter and photo sent in 1978 by the way, Webster is my cat
Sorry to hear this news, my condolences to his family and friends. I met him twice, the second time twenty years after the first time and he seemed just the same, a really nice guy. I loved to see him wheel his gassers.
I had the privelege of meeting him at denver at the world gasser championships in '94. Like one of the other posts says my camera wasn't working very well and he had his wife take a picture of my wife standing with him beside his "promod" style '33. Couple of weeks later the picture showed up with a card and letter about how much fun they had meeting everybody. He will be missed.....my condolences to the family and close friends.
No pun intended, I know, but KS lived 8 seconds from your house - a very appropriate comment! I spent a short while in his presence a few years back.....a true legend. R.I.P.
