History What's your favorite old drag strip?

Have you all heard of George Rays at paragould arkansas. It is the last remaning wild cat heads up drag strip in the country. Hot rod Mag did a feature on it a while back there is a website also. Very relaxed atmosphere not many rules. Cost $8.oo to spectate or race. Only 1/8 mile any more. Have only changed one thing in 40 years. They replaced the out houses with porta jons. A good way to spend a sunday afternoonOldWolf

 

U.S.30, I'll third that! there is a pic on the web of what it looks like today cars I saw in the 60's run there are legends,remember the adds on WLS radio.(Long Live Dick Biondi!!)

 

Second that. Atco ..... Lots of memories there from when I was stationed at McGuire AFB ...

 

winterportdragway is my favorite track a lot of people like 1/4 mile but 1/8mile you got to be on your game lot of good people never had a bad experence and plenty of room open in 1962 and privatly owend and the camping is fun and close to bangor is big town just my thoughts.

 

No Brainer here...Dover Drag Strip ...wingdale,N.Y. '61-'76 ...just had 18th reunion ! photos of it , at site Now.

BUnker Hill Dragway in Bunker Hill IN. Was originally a 1/4 mile in the 60's and there were times when a dragster would go off the end across the gravel road that crossed behind it.

The 40 Ford in the pic was Caddy powered and at one time hit the stand in the picture and knocked it down.

Having been only to Rockingham on the east coast I reckon its not a bad one...... in saying that I can only sight Famoso and Sears Point in the West coast, but Famoso is pretty cool and there is plenty to eat and places to stay in Bako and you might get Kiwi Konnection into it.

The closing of sanford and the opining of epping had to be close. I only missed 4 years then. 61 thru 65.

 

KCIR! My dad started taking me there when I was 6 years old, in '68. I remember the 32 nitro Funny Car shows on a Wednesday night during the summer. The spectators could/can stand so close that its as good as being with the crew on the starting line.

Quaker City in Salem, OH

Quaker is "interesting" with the uphill staging lane to the burnout box, but is a great track overall.

 

Definately Beech Bend. Of course I am biased because it is in my hometown but it is a cool old place with a nice vintage feel.

...bring it to Bowling Green where the beer flows like wine (or something like that anyway).

Beaver Springs dragway-Beaver Springs Pa.

1/4 mile,plenty of flat pit area,old style tower,good food
free camping overnight-nice little town 10-15 mins away
and Beaver Bob -the track owner-is really into it and
loves old skool stuff!

 

Another vote for Beech Bend, Bowling Green, KY. Has that vintage look , covered bleachers (close to track), Plenty of shade trees, I could go on & on. If you have never been to NHRR or Goodguys There it is a must attend.
