Denton is a college town so there should be plenty to do there and Dallas is about 30 miles south.
If you like hotrod engines, you might stop by Calvert Precision Engines.
They also have a 1/8th mile dragstrip that puts on some good shows, but probably not right now.

My mama told me if I don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

So, I can't say anything about Denton.

It is pretty flat up there, but Texas is big, we got all sorts of terrain. If you head southeast from there you'll run into piney woods, if you head southwest, rolling hill country.

Dallas/Ft Worth is the biggest city nearby and there's plenty of nightlife there, I don't know much about the hot rod scene up there, but I'll bet there's plenty of those boys on the HAMB who can steer you right.

I do know there's a nostalgia drags coming up in May in Grand Prairie, that's just south of Denton, between Dallas and Fort Worth, might be a good opportunity to meet some Texans, we're a pretty friendly bunch...mostly.

Dallas/Fort Worth is huge ! Lots of gearheads up there! But my golden rule is this...whenever going to a new city, think to yourself: Have I ever seen this city on an episode of COPS, or First 48? if the answer is yes, run like hell! hahaha.

Denton is a nice place. I spent three years there at NTSU (now UNT). Graduated in 72. It's not really flat land, not like west Texas. Visit areas between Denton and Dallas for homes and better location. Homes are a little pricey but some nice areas. Watch out for home owners associations, they can be really bitchy about what kind of car you own and working on it in your drive.

  8. The Thaw Drags are there in Denton, just north on I-35..
All kinds of Hambers in the area...and going south on I-35 is
all built up so you dont know when you leave Denton and get to Big D...Dallas annual car show at Market Hall coming real soon..
You will not be disapointed in car related happenings in the area

I have family there. It's already blurred into DFW, so it's not like going on a raod trip to get to something in that area. Anything you would ever need commercially or retail is there. Between Denton and DFW is a nice sized area of Horse Ranches. Not a bad neighborhood at all. Lake Dallas and Lake Lewisville ar there for your fishing and boating needs. Lot's of industry and support business in the area. Easy access to Oklahoma and all that neat tin they keep stashed in the woods.

Oh and you never have to worry about Texas falling into the ocean like California because Oklahoma really does suck! Hook 'em, Horns!

If you make it to town for the THAW on Feb 27th, you can meet a bunch of the N TX guys...

    Hook'em Horns!

  21. denton is awesome, i went to college there, lots of pretty girls and fun bars. dallas is close, as well as ft worth. bunches of cool car guys there.

  22. I live in denton and love it! Lots to do, plenty of car guys here and in the surrounding areas. I'm a transplant from southern ohio and as much as I like ohio, ill never leave texas(unless the army says so!)
Shoot me a pm and ill let ya know all about denton and the surrounding areas!

  23. I grew up in east Dallas and I have lived in Denton now for 6 years, love it. Like everyone else said the summers can be tough, but not terrible. There is plenty to do within DFW and if not, hit up Austin, it is only 3-3 1/2 hours. Good place though.

I was born there but moved to Dallas after a couple of months so I'm not sure what's around there.

I lived in Shady Shores TX...just south of Denton for 7 years and it was great. 2 blocks off the Lake nice rolling hills, beautiful country side. Just North of Denton you can find some open land and pretty inexpensive living....at least compared to Dallas. Taxes are pretty reasonable in the country. I think it's one of the nicer areas in the Metrolplex. Not to far from Texas Motor Speedway if you like Nascar.

Ive lived in Denton since 1988 and i love it. Cool little town and some of the best people ive ever met. i grew up in Dallas and would never live there again. Its like a mini austin. Lots of live music going on up here and your only 30min away from dallas or ft worth.
Bunch of cool car stuff going on most of the year.

I have grown up here my whole life. Its an awesome place to be. Car events going on year around from drag racing, car shows, NASCAR or swap meets...Denton isn't far from the dallas/fortworth so everything you will need is near by. There are great towns all around denton that have a lot to offer and plenty of lakes to keep you cool in the summer time. During the summer there usually is a car cruise every saturday night within 30 miles or so of denton. And if you want to try your luck with gambling there is always the Winstar casino about 30 miles to the north of denton as well.

Do you know why there are wagon wheels at so many driveway entrances on the back roads of Oklahoma? 'Cause that's where the wagon broke down!:D

I moved here from the Detroit area 28 years ago and I am still considered a “damn Yankee”. No problem though, it’s all good natured. Speaking of good natured, I love the people! Fiercely independent, with a can do spirit, take responsibility for their own actions, and mind their own business, unless you ask for their help. If you need help, they are there in abundance, until you’re back on your feet, then leave you alone and never expect repayment.

If you like sports, there is plenty. Football, baseball, basketball, high school, college, and pro. Fishing hunting, and any kind of motor sports and racing you could want. Plenty of car culture here too.

As for weather, winters are nice (I had a t-shirt and shorts on yesterday), summers…well, thank God for air conditioning. After 28 years, I have learned to love it here, although my wife still misses the changes of season. We don’t have them here. The only changes of season are the ones when we move the switch on the thermostat from cool to heat, or vice-versa.

One other thing I almost forgot to mention. We heard that there was a recession going on in the U.S., but we haven't noticed. It seems to have left Texas pretty much alone.
