Real pictures from the 60's, no hot links to someone's site.

More from the 68 Nats in Oz.

I know that it looks out of place but Colin Hyams actually entered his Ford GT 40 in the nats that year. It was a Mk 1 version (race car) that he also drove on the street. I was there with my long time mate Rex Brown and we ran against Hyams during qualifying with Rex's six cylinder D dragster. I can't remember how quick Hyams ran on that pass but the dragster went 11.86 and lost.

South Australia's Watson brothers and their "sideplate" Holden powered El Manos D/D. The class was for pre 1963 six cylinder, flathead V8 and other early engines such as straight 8 Buicks. It looks as if they were having the clutch or gearbox troubles which plagued the cars using the early HHolden drivetrains.

This is the Bob Dunn altered from the previous set of pix. Dunn had a body shop in Sydney and ran big block Ford powered altereds for years before purchasing an ex Gene Snow Charger funny car.

Ken Spence's 289 Ford powererd Mark 2 Zephyr. English Fords made up the majority of FoMoCo's product line in Australia for many years with only the full size cars coming from the US until the introduction of the Falcon

More from my previous post. This is a betrter view of Dennis Walford's show/go T bucket. As GM did not introduce the small block in Oz until 1961 most early rods (and a lot of race cars) used the venerable Y block as it was the easiest overhead to find.

    More to come later,

Denis Walford still owns that bucket but it had a 351 cleveland fitted years ago.

We had a sad day today when we lost one of the heros of the sport.

K.S. Pittman passed away last night.

Our prayers go out to LaVaugn & Family.

Very sad, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about his exploits before and during the height of the 'Gasser Wars'... what a great competitor. RIP.
