I picked this car up in August of 2008 and spent last winter/spring getting it ready for the HRR in Bowling Green, Ky, and painted in July for our local hot rod drag event. The car was pretty solid to start with since it came out of NM in 2005. I had to put new rockers in both sides, front floor pans, lower front fender patch panels, and the rust in the rear was cut out when I radiused the rear wheel openings. I also had to add a taller driveshaft tunnel since the transmission sits up hirer in the car with the straight axle set up in order to level the intake to 0 degrees. I have mustang bench seats for the interior and will be adding a roll bar this year. I ran a 450hp 355ci SBC and muncie 4spd with a 9" ford 4:56 gears last year and turned average times of 13.6 at 101 mph. In September I put rod #7 out the pan and will be running another 355ci at about 570hp this time and upgraded to an Autogear 4spd. The front wheels are MT with painted gold centers and the rear are OE style chrome wheels with Hurst recap street slicks.

That sure looks like fun. I've got a 51 club coupe, that is in pieces. I am not sure of the direction for the build? but this gives me another avenue.

Really cool that you used a '50 Ford...Don't see many of them as gassers. Loved the videos.

Love it man!! Awesome vids. Think it would look even more killer if you threw on some skinny bias plys up front. HHRR in Bowling Green is sick!

54fordgasser I got a set of tires coming from a friend hopefully can get them mounted in the spring. Spending money on new motor and roll cage first.

Looks nice. Really does. I've always been a big fan of those 49-51 Fords.

    StLouisGasser,

Are there any nostalgia events by you this year. My in-laws live in Alton, Ill and I was looking to race at Gateway or somewhere close to there once this year.

Yeah, we got that Musclecar Reunion late in May (I believe) at the modern Gateway Raceway facility. It's a pretty big Nostalgia meet with Gassers and stuff. I think that a bunch of us might try to go up to to Cordova, Ill. in June for their Nostalgia race. I don't know about Bowling Green's NHRA Hot Rod Reunion this year. It's a 3-day event, but unless you get there Wed, or early Thursday, you're not going to find a decent place in the pits anymore. It's almost gotten too big. There is a great little event at a small town just North of Alton, Ill. called the White Hall Dragway Reunion in early September. It's a one-day event at the city park and has become one of my favorite things to do every summer.

I really like your car. I had thought about building a Ford gasser and this helps me feel even better about the idea. I really dig the brown on this car! Nice job.

Cool Ride, That body style make a cool Gasser and you don't see many.

  27. Here's the info on the Gateway event in May. Fun event; you wouldn't be disappointed! If you decide to make the trip, drop me a PM. I'm about 40 miles North of Alton and plan to be at the track all three days.

I am getting started on a '51. Only difference in stance will be mine has a 4" dropped axle so the car will set down more in front. Mine will have a 350 with a B&M street Charger (because I have it already). Otherwise we tend to think alike. Any more pics of the front stub modifications?
