    hi there!

this one goes out to the Buick/Olds guru's

    i have a 55 Special 2 door hardtop

currently the car has the vent/fly windows "housed" in a Pot metal frame

i bought these stainless steel covers in hopes of using them

WILL THEY WORK, can they cover over the pitted pot metal frames?

if not then what do you suppose they were from initially?

    any help is greatly appriciated

    thank you

    Jesse

I'm not sure they are covers for vent window housings. They are probably stainless trim for a car that didn't have chromed potmetal housings....like 55-57 Chevies.
Never heard of covers like that...but I've been wrong before!

those are trim pieces for a hard top, not covers.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say... are you thinking the vent window somehow snaps into that piece, and then that piece pivots with the window?
I believe that piece stays attached to the door.

i am thinking that maybe instead of a pot metal chromed frame that there might be a version that had a steel frame that this covered

and no i don't think they move

    thanx

I had two 54 Buick Specials both a coup and a 54 convert, (which are the same as 55 & 56) both had pot metal frames for the wing windows.

I am not by any means positive, but with a bit of google searching, and some rusty memory, I think what you have is for a 1958 impala... here is a pic..
*** ...and maybe not after looking more at the pics...**

    UPDATE

i finally got a chance to stop by where the car is - the shape and profile look like a perfect match - but there is no way to really get it on there

they must be for something very similiar (Super R/M or maybe the "Post" cars have stainless)

either way too bad - i am told pot metal is $$$$ to fix

Hi, They are off a 1956 Olds 4 door hard top. I have one also a 2 door hardtop the 4 door has stainless covers over the steel frame of the door, The 2 door has chrome plated die cast aka pot metal. I have looked at this operation, I think if you do some light grinding and fitting you could use a 2 part epoxy to bond the stainless over your housings. Let me know how this works out.

I have a 55 century 4 door hardtop that has the same things on them. The vent windows are still intact with stainless covers on them. Just like what you have pictured.

The coupe was a hard top, which by the way had the same part number on the potmetal frame as the convertible. But on the convertible the part that sticks up that shuts the flapper was ground off, as a convertible has no flapper. Brian

I pulled a pair of vent window assemblies out of a 56 Super 88 2 dr HT recently. Here are a couple of pictures of them. They are chrome plated pot metal for the most part. Maybe these views will help.
