Hello friends, I've been a lurker on here for a long time. I love this place, it has the feeling of sitting around a friend's garage, shootin' the shit. I grew up around cars, watching my dad build custom fender skirts, shaving door handles and trim, watching and learning how to sling lead and paint, all in a garage with a dirt floor and wood burner. He fed our family working there for several years. Later in my 20's I had the extreme good fortune of doing my union apprenticeshipunder him in a local Cadillac dealership's body shop. He was an old school body man (you know, peck and file and file and peck), very little if any filler. I learned everything about body and paint work from the best, but I leaned toward the mechanical side of things, preferring grease under the fingernails and the smell of Cam-II to big cracked open and split fingers from the lacquer thinner (ouch). I've had several street/hot rods and I wish I had a few of them back... one of the best was a 37 Chevy 2-door sedan, small block auto. My wife and I built that car 17 years ago and we did everything from the Pinto rack to the custom interior and built it for less than 5 grand total, and proudly parked next to the big buck trailer queens. Being in the car business I never got too attached to my cars... at least until they were sold. I don't know a lot about anything, but I know a little about a lot. So maybe I can help someone out in some way.
